A novel cosmetic comprises an oil gel formed by at least one metal salt of a dialkyl phosphate of the following general formula (I), (II) or (III) ##STR1## in which each R.sub.1 and each R.sub.2 independently represent a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon group having from 8 to 36 carbon atoms, m is an integer of from 1 to 3, n is an integer of from 0 to 2, k is a value of 1 or 2, and 1 is a value of 0 to 1, and a cosmetic oil. The metal salt of the dialkyl phosphate can yield a good oil gel when it is incorporated into the oil in an amount as small as 0.1 to 10% of the oil. Further, the dialkyl phosphate retains good feel of oils without causing oozing of the oil, crazing, discoloration, perspiration and the like.

Disclosed herein is an emulsifying agent comprising (a) a partially or completely neutralized product, with a basic substance, of a phosphoric acid ester which contains a phosphoric acid monoester represented by the general formula (I) and a phosphoric acid diester represented by the general formula (II) from 100:0 to 70:30 molar ratio: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 represent individually a linear alkyl group or a linear alkenyl group of 10-22 carbon atoms or a branched alkyl group of 12-24 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represent individually an ethylene group or a propylene group, and m and n represent individually a number of 0-30, and (b) a nonionic surfactant with HLB of 6 or less. Emulsified cosmetics comprising (a) the neutralized product of the phosphoric acid ester, (b) a nonionic surfactant with HLB of 6 or less, (c) an oily substrate, and (d) water is also disclosed. The above emulsifying agent is weakly acidic or neutral in nature and also stable against aging degradation, it provides weakly acidic or neutral emulsified cosmetics stable at a broad pH range and confortable to skin.

Disclosed herein is an emulsifier or emulsifying composition which comprises one or more of the hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyalkenyl phosphates represented by the general formula (I) and/or (II): ##STR1## in which R represents an alkyl or alkenyl group of 5-21 carbon atoms, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 independently represent a pair ion selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkali metal, ammonium, etc. The emulsifying composition according to the invention is highly safe to skin and widely usable in the emulsification of either W/O or O/W type.

Disclosed herein is a novel 2,3-dialkoxypropyl glyceryl ether and the preparation process for it. The above diglycerin dialkyl ether is readily prepared with high yield and purity by reacting its corresponding glycidyl ether with a protected glycerin to form a 1,3-dioxolan compound, followed by etherifying the thus formed 1,3-dioxolan compound into a dialkyl ether dioxolan compound, and then hydrolyzing the resultant dialkyl ether dioxolan compound.
