In an image recording/reproduction method for recording image information on a recording medium by using a computer, a verify mode is set into the OFF state when recording image information on said recording medium. In addition, use as a write or read region a specified region of the recording medium which is greater than or equal to a unitary data size being handled during error correction processing to be performed when writing or reading image information on or out of said recording medium. Additionally, upon reading of image information from the recording medium, any image information that has experienced read errors will never be read again.

Method and apparatus for recording/reproducing image information on/from removable medium

On an information registering equipment, content of interest rendered by media, such as a video image of interest distributed by TV broadcasting is captured and displayed. Position/area on the image are defined with a mouse or the like to obtain the target position/area. Information to identify the content is obtained from the TV tuner. Reference information is obtained through input means or by retrieval from the server for reference information. The obtained information specifics are transmitted to an information search equipment that in turn stores then into its database. An information viewing equipment obtains the target position/area and information to identify the content of interest and transmits the thus obtained data to the information search equipment. File management method having first and second processing modes for storing file type information for discrimination between first and second processing modes in recording medium as file management information associated with file for file management. In first processing mode, when data in the form of file is written on a recording medium and a write error occurs, replacement processing to another write area is performed to write the data in another area. In second processing mode, when write error occurs, the replacement processing to other write area is not performed to write the data. Method includes reading file type information associated with a file to be processed from recording medium, converting the file type from file type indicative of first processing mode to file type indicative of second processing mode, and writing the file type after conversion in recording medium as file management information associated with the file to be processed.

Method and apparatus for file management

To connect two divided and multiplexed streams seamlessly, a gap between video and audio playback times has to be adjusted. And, to make this adjustment, every conventional method has been required to process mass data by extracting and re-encoding the elementary streams and re-arranging the data, so that the data cannot be handled by any video cameras. However, the present invention has successfully solved the above conventional problems as follows. An audio packet disposed at the start of a following stream to be connected is replaced with a null packet if its playback start time precedes that of the video packet. Then, soundless audio packets are added at the end of the preceding stream, thereby eliminating the gap between video and audio playback times in both of the streams to realize the required seamless connection.

To ensure seamless reproduction of video data and audio data even when the video data and audio data are edited video object unit by video object unit in multiplexing of the video data and audio data, a playback time of the video data is compared with that of the audio data and packets are multiplexed in such a way that a video packet and an audio packet to be reproduced within a given timing range are included in the same video object unit.

The video information recording and reproducing apparatus includes an inputting information part for receiving video information, a storing information part, an outputting information part for producing video information, an automatic indexing information part for automatically adding indexes to the inputted video information, a filtering video information part for automatically selecting video information to be stored from the inputting information part, and a controlling part for controlling the above elements, thereby actualizing the free time-shift viewing function, intelligent search function, and automatic video data base generation function.
