Identifying activity in an area even during periods of poor visibility using a video camera and an audio sensor are disclosed. The video camera is used to identify visible events of interest and the audio sensor is used to capture audio occurring temporally with the identified visible events of interest. A sound profile is determined for each of the identified visible events of interest based on sounds captured by the audio sensor during the corresponding identified visible event of interest. Then, during a time of poor visibility, a subsequent sound event is identified in a subsequent audio stream captured by the audio sensor. One or more sound characteristics of the subsequent sound event are compared with the sound profiles associated with each of the identified visible events of interest, and if there is a match, one or more matching sound profiles are filtered out from the subsequent audio stream.

System and method for identifying activity in an area using a video camera and an audio sensor

Methods and systems for identifying human activity in a building. An illustrative method includes storing one or more room sound profiles for a room in a building based at least in part on background audio captured in the room without a presence of humans in the room. Background noise filters are generated for the room based on the room sound profiles. Real time audio may be captured from the room and filtered with at least one of the background noise filters. The filtered real time audio may be analyzed to identify one or more sounds associated with human activity in the room. A situation report may be generated based at least in part on the identified one or more sounds associated with human activity in the room and transmitted for use by a user.

A remote control device includes a digital audio storage device, a talk button, and an optical distance measurer. The digital audio storage device is configured to continually record an audio input for a specific amount of time. The talk button is coupled to the digital audio storage device and is configured to initiate a transmission of the audio input to a set-top box device. The optical distance measurer is coupled to the talk button and is configured to automatically measure a distance to a user in response to the talk button being pressed.

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which relate to remotely monitoring the health of an individual. The individual wears a health monitoring device, with an attached strap, capable of sensing characteristics of the individual. These characteristics may include voice level and tone, movements, blood pressure, temperature, etc. The device allows individuals to constantly monitor their health without having to physically visit a doctor or other health care professional. Wireless communication, for instance with an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) set-top box, allows measurements to be made and evaluated by a computerized healthcare service provider. For a more accurate evaluation, measurements are sent over the INTERNET to a service. The device communicates with services in order to diagnose the individual based upon the characteristics.

A time-stamped physiological measurement is compared to a time-stamped message from a mobile device. The system may include, in addition to the network and the subscriber database, a server and a set top box. The set top box is configured to receive commands causing the set top box to retrieve video data from a network subscriber database, display the video data on a display unit; and to transmit the video data over the network to the server. The server is configured to transmit the video data from the server over the network such that the video data is displayable on a channel of the network.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may operate, for example, obtaining a number of blogs including an initial set of annotated blogs and unannotated blogs. The initial set of annotated blogs are annotated as being either relevant to a selected media program or not relevant to the selected media program. A set of features is determined associating the selected media program with the unannotated blogs and a trained classifier is generated based on the set of features. The trained classifier is applied to the blogs to identify a subset of blogs relevant to the selected media program. An analysis is performed on the selected blogs to determine a trend related to the selected media program and a graphical user interface is presented that concurrently presents the selected blogs, the trend, and the selected media program. The system may include, in addition to the IPTV network and the subscriber database, an IPTV server and an IPTV set top box. The IPTV set top box is configured to receive commands causing the IPTV set top box to retrieve video data from an IPTV subscriber database, display the video data on an IPTV display unit; and to transmit the video data over an IPTV network to an IPTV server. The IPTV server is configured to transmit the video data from the IPTV server over the IPTV network such that the video data is displayable on a channel of the IPTV network.
