A display module, in which panel electrode terminals of a display panel are bonded to pattern terminals of a Cu foil pattern of a flexible wire board by using an anisotropic conductive adhesive, has a solder resist for protecting the Cu foil pattern on a base material of the flexible wire board so that the solder resist is extended inside the display panel while having the flexible wire board connected to the display panel. Therefore, even when the flexible wire board is used in a bent state, poor connection is surely prevented while conveniently suppressing a break in wire of the Cu foil pattern when bent, thereby attaining a highly reliable display module.

The display device includes a display panel and a plurality of wiring boards placed along the periphery of the display panel. The display panel has panel-side connection wiring for electrically connecting first and second wiring boards adjacent to each other among the plurality of wiring boards. Each of the plurality of wiring boards has an insulating base, a board-side wiring group running on the insulating base, and at least one driving circuit element for driving the display panel. The board-side wiring group is composed of element-connected wiring electrically connected to the driving circuit element and non-connected wiring having no electrical connection to the driving circuit element. In a display module of the present invention, a light guide plate, having a cross sectional slope with respect to a display surface of a liquid crystal panel, is provided face to face behind the liquid crystal panel. Source TCPs and gate COFs, which are connected to the liquid crystal panel so as to make a right angle with each other, are respectively so extended as to reach to the back surface of the light guide plate. The gate COFs are bent along the slope of the light guide plate so that the gate COFs are so extended as to reach to the back surface of the light guide plate.

A liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal panel and a plurality of TCPs each mounted with a liquid crystal driver IC. Around the liquid crystal driver IC, the TCP has signal input lines for inputting signals to the liquid crystal driver IC, first signal-output lines for feeding output signals of the liquid crystal driver IC to the liquid crystal panel, second signal-output lines for feeding the output signals of the liquid crystal driver IC to the adjacent TCP, power supply lines for driving the liquid crystal driver IC, and counter-electrode lines for feeding counter-electrode signals to the liquid crystal panel. The two counter-electrode lines are electrically connected to each other by means of a jumper chip. The wirings of the TCP are connected with the corresponding electrode terminals of the liquid crystal panel in a belt-shaped terminal connection area.

Liquid crystal display device

To realize a liquid crystal display device of such a packaging structure that a drive voltage can be supplied to TCPs without being seriously affected by a voltage drop caused by an increased resistance of wires despite a growth in size of a liquid crystal panel, the liquid crystal panel includes: source TCPs connected to source wires; and a circuit substrate for supplying a liquid-crystal-drive signal to the source TCPs. Between the source TCPs, there are provided: transmission panel wires for transmitting the signal supplied by the circuit substrate sequentially from one source TCP to the next; and a flexible substrate for stabilizing the signal transmitted via the transmission panel wires.

Source lines 11 of a liquid crystal panel 10 and output lines 21 for source lines of a TCP 24, an opposite-voltage use line 12 of the liquid crystal panel 10 and an opposite-voltage use line 22 of the TCP 24, connection lines 13 of the liquid crystal panel 10 and second input lines 25 of the TCP 24, and connection lines 13 adjacent to the foregoing connection lines 13 with the source lines 11 interposed therebetween and output lines 26 for liquid-crystal driver ICs of adjacent TCPs 24, are aligned with each other and electrically connected to each other by means of anisotropic conductive film or the like, respectively. Next, the opposite-voltage use line 22 of the TCP 24 and connection lines 34 of the circuit board 30, as well as a first input line 23 of the TCP 24 and connection lines 33 of the circuit board 30 are aligned with each other and electrically connected to each other by means of anisotropic conductive film or solder or the like. As a result, interconnection lines for electrically interconnecting the interconnection lines of adjacent TCPs 24 of the liquid crystal panel 10 and the opposite-voltage use line can be prevented from crossing each other, so that a low-price liquid crystal display without the use of multilayer interconnection can be obtained.

Liquid crystal display with electrically connected integrated circuits

A panel having a plurality of electrode terminals disposed along a peripheral portion of one surface thereof is assembled at small size, less weight, and low cost. Flexible wiring boards on which a drive IC is mounted are connected to the electrode terminals, and circuit wiring is connected to the flexible wiring boards. On both sides of the peripheral portion of the panel, a first junction terminal and a second junction terminal are provided. By a first circuit wiring, the second junction terminal corresponding to one flexible wiring board is connected to the first junction terminal corresponding to another flexible wiring board adjacent to the flexible wiring board. An input terminal, output terminals, and a third junction terminal that lead to the drive IC are provided at places corresponding to the various terminals on one surface of the flexible wiring boards. By the second circuit wiring, the input terminal is connected to the third junction terminal. The corresponding terminals are connected to each other by overlapping the flexible wiring boards on the peripheral portion of the panel.

A flat type display device is assembled compactly with high reliability. The flat type display device has a liquid crystal panel having electrode terminals on a peripheral portion of one face of the liquid crystal panel, a flexible wiring board having a drive IC mounted thereon for driving the liquid crystal panel, and a common wiring board having electrode terminals on one face thereof. The flexible wiring board is electrically connected to the electrode terminals of the liquid crystal panel. The common wiring board is electrically connected to the flexible wiring board so as to transmit an input signal, which has been received by the electrode terminals from external, to the drive IC. The liquid crystal panel and the common wiring board are mounted on each other so as to overlap each other in a state that their faces on which their respective electrode terminals are provided are opposed to each other and that the electrode terminals of the common wiring board are located outside of a peripheral portion of the liquid crystal panel. The flexible wiring board is provided in a clearance between the liquid crystal panel and the common wiring board.

Assembling method of flat type display device

There is provided a display panel assembly structure capable of achieving a highly reliable connection even when fine-pitch electrode terminals are employed. A second electrode terminal is embedded in a flexible printed circuit board, and protrudes slightly from the flexible printed circuit board within a range of 0 to 2.times.10.sup.-3 mm. By embedding the second electrode terminal in the flexible printed circuit board, an apparent thickness of the second electrode terminal is reduced while keeping the rigidity of the second electrode terminal to thereby improve etching accuracy of a top surface thereof. With the reduction of the protrusion amount of the second electrode terminal, a ratio of a thickness of an anisotropic conductive film to a diameter of a conductive particle can be made to be approximately '1'. With the above-mentioned arrangement, the flow of the conductive particles is suppressed to prevent the possible reduction in amount of the conductive particles between a first electrode terminal and the second electrode terminal and further prevent the conductive particles from flowing into a space portion between adjoining first and second electrode terminals. A highly reliable connection between the panel having the fine-pitch electrode terminals and a circuit board can be achieved.
