Disclosed are a method for the fixation of carbon dioxide which is characterized by the steps of bringing carbon dioxide and seawater or fresh water into contact with each other at a temperature and a pressure required for the formation of carbon dioxide hydrate, and sinking it in the seawater or fresh water satisfying certain conditions for the stability of carbon dioxide hydrate; a method for the fixation of carbon dioxide which uses a pressurized pipeline for producing and cooling the hydrate and releases the product hydrate at a position in the sea where the hydrate can remain stable; an apparatus for fixing and dumping carbon dioxide which is disposed in seawater or fresh water satisfying certain pressure and temperature conditions for the formation of carbon dioxide hydrate and which comprises a container for producing carbon dioxide hydrate, and a discharge means for discharging the hydrate produced out of the container; and an apparatus for the treatment of carbon dioxide which comprises a reaction device disposed on a deep ocean floor, a pipeline for sending concentrated carbon dioxide to the reaction device, an ejector type nozzle at an end of the pipeline, and a means for dispersing carbon dioxide hydrate produced in the reaction device over the deep ocean floor.

There are a train of pile units of flat fuel cells of solid electrolyte disposed in a horizontally extending fuel gas duct. The gas fuel duct supplies to the train of pile units of flat fuel cells fuel gas. Each of said pile units of flat fuel cells has a horizontal flat flow path for the fuel gas disposed above each fuel-side porous electrode sheet of the fuel cell opening freely at two path ends on the opposing side faces of the pile unit. There is a horizontal flat flow path for the oxidant gas disposed beneath each oxygen-side porous electrode sheet separated from the fuel gas flow paths and each connected at two path ends to either a supply line or to an exhaust line for the oxidant gas. There is an after-burning region disposed downstream of said train of pile units of flat fuel cells, for burning at least a part of the spent fuel gas which has passed through the fuel cell using at least a part of the spent oxidant gas which has passed through the fuel cell, for generating a heat of combustion for use for preheating at least one of the feed gases to be supplied to the fuel cell.

A boiler having a furnace, a tunnel section and a rear gas duct is improved by the fact that a partition wall at right angles to side walls of the rear gas duct is disposed in the rear gas duct to divide it into two passages. A low-pressure reheater is disposed in the divided passage nearest to the tunnel section and has a narrow width. Two partition walls are disposed in the other divided passage parallel to the side walls of the rear gas duct to further divide the passage into three passages. Superheaters are disposed in the further divided passages close to the side walls and a high-pressure reheater is disposed in the central further divided passage. In another embodiment, the locations of the superheater and the high-pressure reheater are reversed.
