An electronic control device includes a first pull-up resistor connected between a power supply and a switch, a series circuit of a transistor and a second pull-up resistor with a resistance value lower than that of the first pull-up resistor, connected in parallel with the first pull-up resistor, and a microcomputer, an output port of which is connected to a base terminal of the transistor and which controls a turning on and off of the transistor using a signal output from the output port. A connection point of the switch, the first pull-up resistor, and the second pull-up resistor is connected to a first analog measurement port of the microcomputer, a power supply is connected to a second analog measurement port of the microcomputer, and current flowing into the switch is detected using a value of voltage input into the first analog measurement port.

When a main switch is turned on, a main relay is energized so as to supply electric power to a computer system; when an engine starting switch is turned on, an engine is started and energization of the main relay is continued; when an engine stopping switch is turned on, the engine is stopped, and the main relay is de-energized so as to stop supply of electric power to the computer system.

An internal-combustion-engine electronic control system according to the present invention is provided with a power switching device that applies or shuts off a primary current of an ignition coil of an internal combustion engine so that at the secondary side of the ignition coil, there is generated a voltage for making an ignition plug of the internal combustion engine produce a spark discharge; and a control unit that turns on or off the power switching device. The internal-combustion-engine electronic control system is characterized in that the control unit is provided with a circuit unit that makes the power switching device softly shut off so as to prevent the ignition plug from producing the spark discharge, and in accordance with the characteristics of the power switching device, the control unit changes the characteristics of the soft shutoff halfway through the shutoff operation.

Provided is an electronic device which does not require difficult machining operation to reduce a wall thickness of a case by cutting, which helps to secure a satisfactory operational efficiency for the mounting of a connector to the case, and which allows the wall thickness of the case to be set at an appropriate level. An electronic device according to the present invention includes: a case which has a dish-shaped sectional configuration and an opening and which has a recess formed in a side wall by notching from an end surface of the opening; a connector fit-engaged with the recess; and an electronic circuit board provided in the case. In the electronic device, the case, which is formed by molding, diverges toward the opening, and the connector is fitted into the recess in an axial direction of the side wall to be mounted perpendicularly to the side wall.

An internal combustion engine ignition apparatus includes a switching circuit having no power supply terminal connected to a power supply such as a battery is constructed, and including an output terminal connected to an ignition coil, an input terminal for receiving an ignition signal voltage and a reference potential terminal connected to a reference potential. In the switching circuit, the terminal structure is simplified, and energization timing and ignition timing can be set more accurately. A current supply circuit is connected between the input terminal and the reference potential terminal, and a current is supplied from the current supply circuit to a drive resistor of the switching element. In this current supply circuit, an energization timing when supply of the driving current is started is controlled by a waveform shaping circuit operating by the ignition signal voltage, and an ignition timing when the driving current is interrupted is controlled.

An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine is capable of avoiding mis-ignition even if subject to external disturbances when a fail signal is transmitted through a common signal line on which an ignition signal can also be transmitted. An igniter is connected to receive the ignition signal from an ECU, and includes a waveform shaper connected with the signal line and having an input connected in parallel to an input resistance so as to make a voltage at the input higher than a prescribed voltage when the ignition signal flows into the input resistance, and a pulse output circuit connected to the input and having an output for generating the fail signal into which a secondary coil current is converted. The pulse output circuit adjusts a fail signal current such that the voltage at the input when the fail signal flows into the input resistance becomes less than the prescribed voltage.

There is proposed an internal combustion engine ignition apparatus in which a switching circuit having no power supply terminal connected to a power supply such as a battery, and includes an output terminal connected to an ignition coil, an input terminal for receiving supply of an ignition signal voltage, and a reference potential terminal connected to a reference potential. A current supply circuit is connected between the input terminal and the reference potential terminal, and a current is supplied from the current supply circuit to a drive resistor of the switching element. This current supply circuit is controlled by a constant current circuit, and supplies a driving current, which is made a constant current, to the drive resistor between a rising portion of the ignition signal voltage and a falling portion thereof. The driving current, which is made the constant current, keeps the gate voltage of the switching element being constant in the on period.

Ion current detection signal output section for outputting an ion current detection signal including a failure determination signal of an ignition operation is provided, and a failure determination as well as a combustion state can be performed based on this ion current detection signal.

The apparatus includes circuitry for detecting an ion current generated within the engine cylinder immediately after combustion, circuitry for detecting a leakage current occurring between electrodes of a spark plug , a first waveform shaper for shaping the ion current into a pulse signal indicating a combustion or misfire event by comparing the pulse signal with a first threshold value for deciding the ion current, the first threshold value being set on the basis of a level of the ion current upon rising thereof, the ion current being superposed on the leakage current, a second waveform shaper for shaping the ion current as detected into a pulse signal through comparison with a second fixed threshold value which is fixed at a value smaller than the first threshold value, and a selector for selectively outputting as the combustion pulse signal either a shaped pulse signal outputted from the first waveform shaper upon detection of occurrence of the leakage current or a shaped pulse signal outputted from the second waveform shaper when no leakage current is detected.
