A water-capturing or drying agent placed in a hermetically sealed field light emission device for maintaining stable light emission of the light emission device not susceptible to moisture and oxygen for long period of time. The drying agent comprises a compound of polymer formed by bonding M constituting a plurality of organometallic compounds wherein M is a trivalent metal atom with an oxygen molecule. The drying agent is placed in the hermetically sealed container, thereby protecting the field light emission device from being adversely affected by damage from trace amounts of moisture permeating from outside the hermetically sealed container and/or adhered to the inner surface thereof.

Drying agent and field light emission device using the same

A dispersion of carbon nanoparticles is prepared by monodispersing carbon nanoparticles in water droplets of a reverse micelle solution in which the water droplets are coated with amphiphilic molecules and dispersed in an organic solvent. In a method of preparing the dispersion of carbon nanoparticles, carbon nanoparticles and a monodispersion function material, e.g., ammonia, for imparting a polarity to surfaces of the carbon nanoparticles are added to the reverse micelle solution. The solution is then stirred, so that the carbon nanoparticles whose surfaces have the polarity are monodispersed in the water droplets of the reverse micelle solution. Further, a metal alkoxide is added to the solution and then stirring them, so that the surfaces of the carbon nanoparticles are coated with oxide of the metal.

Dispersion of carbon nanoparticles and core-shell type carbon nanoparticles, and method of preparing the same

A thin-profile organic EL device with a high degree of reliability is provided. The anode, the organic layer and the light transmissible-type cathode are laminated on the substrate and the inorganic water-barrier layer are laminated thereon, and then a UV rays-curable type water-capturing agent comprising a UV rays-curing agent and a water-absorbing agent is cured to bond to the sealing substrate instead of an adhesive layer. The UV rays-curing agent comprises an acrylic monomer, initiator and accelerator. The UV rays-curable type sealing agent is placed to the outer peripheral portion of the UV rays-curable type water-capturing agent to be cured. The emission of the organic layer is transmitted upward via the cathode, UV rays-curable type water-capturing agent and the sealing substrate. The UV rays-curable type water-capturing agent can be formed in a desired thickness and pattern by applying it and irradiating with UV-rays, thereby making it possible to produce a low-profile organic EL device in large quantities with a high degree of reliability and without damaging the organic layer which is not resistant to water.

Water-absorbing agent for organic EL device and organic EL device

There is provided composite nano-particles comprising nano-crystal particles dispersed stably and individually in suspension in high concentration without mutual aggregation of the nano-particles. A determined amount of pure water or deionized water is poured into a reactor, into which is introduced nitrogen gas at rate of 300 cm/min for a given time while agitating with a stirrer to remove dissolved oxygen in the pure water, allowing to stand in an atmosphere of nitrogen. Next, the inside of the reactor is maintained in an atmosphere of nitrogen and sodium citrate as a dispersion-stabilizing agent, an aqueous solution of MPS as a surface-modifying agent, an anion aqueous solution for co-precipitation as a nano-crystal and a cation aqueous solution are added, in that order. Then, an aqueous solution of sodium silicate is added to the reactor, which is then allowed to stand in the dark place in an atmosphere of nitrogen after agitation. At that time, a vitrification-inhibiting agent may be added in order to inhibit the growth of glass layer.

Composite nano-particle and method for preparing the same

A water-capturing agent capable of inhibiting the generation and growth of a darkspot and an organic EL device including the water-capturing agent are provided. The organic EL device uses the water-capturing agent comprising a compound illustrated by the chemical structural formula (1);wherein R and R' are independently a substituent selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group, aryl group, cycloalkyl group, alkoxy group, acyl group and heterocyclic group having an unsaturated bond and one or more of a hydrogen atom and a carbon atom, or a substituent formed by substituting at least one of a hydrogen atom of said group with a halogen atom, and a central atom M is a metal having coordination number of six.

An organic EL device having a drying medium capable of suppressing the growth of a dark spot equipped with a water-capturing medium layer for chemically capturing water placed on a water-capturing medium holding layer. The organic EL device is comprised of a sealed container having a glass substrate and a sealing cap bonded to the glass substrate. The sealed container is provided with a light emitting region formed on the substrate which is formed of organic EL material layers placed between a pair of opposite anode and cathode electrodes. The sealed container further includes a water-capturing medium holding layer provided on an inner surface of the container spaced apart from the light emitting region and a water-capturing medium holding layer.

An organic EL element maintaining emission characteristics for long periods of time comprising: a laminate having a structure such that organic EL material layers are sandwiched between a pair of opposite electrodes; a sealed container into which is placed said laminate; and a drying member which is placed in said sealed container and prevents contamination of said organic EL material layers by moisture, wherein said drying member is formed of an organometallic compound. The organometallic compound adsorbs chemically water and functions as an adhering agent for other physical drying agents and chemical drying agents and has no adverse effect on the organic EL element and can prevent growth of a dark spot.

An organic electroluminescence (EL) device doping material which is thermally stable, having a high melting point, and doping with which improves stability of a luminous layer formed as a thin layer. An organic EL device comprises a glass substrate an anode made of transparent indium tin oxide (ITO), an electron hole implanted transporting layer of TPD, a luminous layer and a cathode made of Mg. The luminous layer is made of Alq doped with 1 mol % of Al O (SABF) as a metal chelate complex having ligands composed of SABF skeletons. When plus DC voltage is applied to the anode and minus DC voltage, to the cathode the luminous layer emits yellow electroluminescence of 16400 cd/m at maximum with 15 V. The external quantum yield was 0.1891 m/W. The luminous layer of the organic EL device is thermally stable and hard to be deteriorated.

Organic electroluminescence device doping device and organic electroluminescence device

A multi-color organic EL device capable of preventing color mixing due to leakage luminescence while incorporating therein luminous layers formed by mask deposition techniques. Anodes, a hole transport layer, luminous layers different in type from each other and cathodes are laminated. In such a laminate structure, the luminous layers different in type which are arranged adjacently to each other are constructed so as to permit the luminous layer increased in band gap to get between the luminous layer decreased in band gap and the hole transport layer.

Multi-color organic electroluminescence device with overlapping luminous layers

An object of this invention is to provide an organic EL device material stable against heat, having a high purity in bluish light emission and a high efficiency. The organic EL device comprises a glass substrate, a transparent anode, a TPD which is an electron hole implanted transporting layer, an organic luminous layer, Alq.sub.3 which is an electron implanted transporting layer and a cathode. The organic luminous layer is an aluminum complex which is .mu.-oxozi [bis(2-(2-benzo oxazolyl)-phenolate) aluminum (III)]. Plus and minus DC voltages are applied to the anode and cathode respectively. The organic luminous layer indicates bluish light emission of 1314 cd/m.sup.2 at 16V. A peak wave length of the luminous spectrum is 420 nm and chromaticity coordinates are x=0.185 and y=0.178 and a high purity as bluish color is assured. The organic EL device material is stable against heat and difficult to deteriorate. Because the device structure is three-layer structure in which the organic luminous layer is sandwiched by an electron implanted transporting layer and an electron hole implanted transporting layer, diffusion of exciton to electrodes is prevented thereby improving the efficiency and reactive current is reduced thereby improving the service life.

Organic electroluminescence device and organic electroluminescence

A fixed pattern display device of the dynamic drive type with high definition including cathodes formed into a fine pattern by conventional photolithography. The cathodes are made of a metal material having a low resistance and arranged on an insulating substrate in the form of wiring patterns for fixed display segments of each of display patterns together with the display patterns. ITO which is resistant to water is exposed in the form of anodes each acting as a common electrode, resulting in arrangement of any protective film being eliminated.

Organic electroluminescence device having apertured insulation layers

The voltage to be applied to fixed display segments are made to be substantially the same to prevent irregular luminance distribution so as to improve display quality. In consideration of allowable voltage drop occurring attributable to the levels of electric currents which flow in electric lines of fixed display segments, the same voltage is applied to the fixed display segments by determining the resistance values by changing the pattern shapes (the lengths, the widths, the thicknesses and the line) of electric lines of the fixed display segments. If the fixed display segments have the same display area, the widths of the electric lines of the fixed display segments are determined to correspond to the ratios of lengths of electric lines of the fixed display segments in order to cause the fixed display segments to be applied with the same voltage.

Organic electroluminescent element with uniform display segment voltages

An organic electroluminescent display device capable of permitting upper electrodes of a fine pattern to be formed and exhibiting increased durability. Ribs are spaced at predetermined intervals on transparent electrodes arranged in the form of a film on a lower transparent substrate. An organic layer is formed between each adjacent two of the ribs and an upper electrode is deposited all over the transparent electrodes. A portion of the upper electrode formed on each of the ribs is removed by scraping, rubbing or the like, resulting in the upper electrode being formed on only each of the organic layers. A cap layer may be provided on the upper electrode as required.
