A compressor having a device for recovering lubricating oil. The compressor includes a discharge chamber and a muffler, which attenuates the pressure pulsation of refrigerant gas sent out from the discharge chamber. The muffler is defined by a muffler base, which is formed on the cylinder block, and a muffler cover, which is attached to the muffler base. The muffler includes a first muffler chamber and a second muffler chamber, which are connected by an opening. The muffler cover has a gas outlet for sending the refrigerant gas out of the compressor from the second muffler chamber. Lubricating oil separated from the refrigerant gas in the first muffler chamber is sent to the crank chamber through a recovery passage. The location of the gas outlet can be easily changed by replacing the muffler cover. Thus, the compressor can be easily adapted to different engine compartments.

Oil recovery device for compressors

A variable displacement compressor that decreases displacement to reduce compression load without imbalancing the rotation of the drive shaft when the rotating speed of the compressor's drive shaft exceeds a predetermined limit value. The compressor includes a pressurizing passage connecting a crank chamber to a discharge chamber. A rotated guide rotates integrally with the drive shaft. The pressurizing passage is opened and closed by a valve body. Orbiting balls, which contact the valve body, are arranged about the axis of the drive shaft and the rotated guide. The balls follow the rotation of the rotated guide and orbit about the axis. The orbiting radius of the balls varies. A spring urges the balls in a direction decreasing the orbiting radius of the balls. When the rotating speed of the drive shaft exceeds the limit value, centrifugal force moves the balls against the force of the spring and increases the orbiting diameter of the balls. This moves the valve body and increases the size of the pressurizing passage.

A variable capacity single-headed piston type refrigerant compressor provided with an aluminum-made cam plate rotating with an axial drive shaft to cause reciprocation of a plurality of single-headed pistons within respective cylinder bores, the cam plate further axially moving in parallel with the drive shaft to adjustably change its angle of inclination with respect to a reference plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drive shaft to thereby adjustably vary the capacity of the compressor, the cam plate being further provided with a weight made of iron system material and generating a centrifugal force on the cam plate during the rotation of the cam plate to thereby produce a moment M2 counteracting an unfavorable moment M1 acting on the cam plate due to the high-speed reciprocation of the pistons.

Variable capacity refrigerant compressor with an aluminum cam plate means

A variable displacement compressor includes a simplified hinge mechanism located between a rotary support and a swash plate. The hinge mechanism includes a swing arm extending from the swash plate and a pair of support arms extending from the rotary support such that the swing arm is placed between the support arms. A guide pin is attached to the swing arm. The guide pin has end portions engaging with guide holes of the support arms. Washers are located between the swing arm and the support arms to prevent the swing arm from directly contacting the support arms.

A variable type compressor has a housing that houses a crank chamber and rotatably supports a drive shaft. Part of the housing is constituted by a cylinder block. Cylinder bores extend through the housing about the drive shaft. A piston is accommodated in each cylinder bore. A discharge chamber is defined in the housing and connected to the crank chamber by a pressurizing passage. An inclinable cam plate is supported on the drive shaft. The reciprocation of each piston draws refrigerant gas into the associated cylinder bore from a suction chamber and discharges the refrigerant gas into the discharge chamber through a discharge port. The displacement and the discharge of refrigerant gas is controlled by altering the inclination of the cam plate. A collection compartment is provided to receive the refrigerant gas discharged from the cylinder bores. Oil is separated from the refrigerant gas in the collection compartment. The inlet of the pressurizing passage is connected with the collection compartment to supply the separated oil to the crank chamber.

A compressor having an oil separator at a shell portion of a housing of the compressor. The oil separator is constructed by a front part 61 integral to a front housing 11 and a rear part 62 integral to a cylinder block 12. The oil separator has an oil separation chamber 1 formed between the front and the rear parts 61 and 62. The oil separator is formed integrally with oil separating passageway forming plates 67 and 68 which partially divide the separation chamber 63 to create a serpentine shaped passageway 66 which extends from an inlet 64a to an outlet 65 of the separation chamber. The passageway 66 is in communication with the crank chamber 15 via a oil return passageway 69 at a location adjacent its outlet.

A piston for use in a compressor is disclosed. The piston has a head for compressing gas and a skirt connected to a swash plate. A first seal and a second seal, which always contact a cylinder bore, are defined on the head. An annular groove is formed between the first and second seals. Lateral forces acting on the piston are received by the first and second seals. A space is formed in the piston to open to the side of the piston between the second seal and the skirt. This reduces the weight of the piston and stabilizes the movement of the piston.

Piston type compressors

A variable displacement compressor used in air conditioners is provided with a tilting swash plate to vary its displacement. A drive shaft extends through a boss of the swash plate. A hole is defined in the boss by a pair of intersecting conical walls. The position of the swash plate is restricted by the contact between the walls of the hole and the drive shaft. The walls of the hole also allow the swash plate to incline without interference. A bearing element is arranged at a central angled section defined in the walls of the hole. The bearing element is located at a position that is opposite from a hinge mechanism with respect to the drive shaft. A concave seat is provided in the boss at this position to receive the bearing element. The bearing element includes a cylindrical surface engaging the outer surface of the drive shaft.

A variable-capacity swash-plate operated single-headed piston type compressor including a crank chamber having a capacity large enough for receiving a drive shaft, a rotor, a swash plate and shoes engaging between the swash plate and single headed pistons and provided with an open mouth for directly receiving a refrigerant gas returning from an external refrigerating system, a suction passageway for providing a fluid communication between the crank chamber and a suction chamber from which the refrigerant gas is sucked into respective cylinder bores so as to be compressed by the single headed pistons, and a capacity control valve provided with a bellows element for adjustably changing the cross sectional area of the suction passageway in response to a change in a pressure prevailing in the suction passageway.

Variable capacity refrigerant compressor

A swash plate tiltably supported on a drive shaft is controlled by adjusting the pressure in a crank chamber. When an electromagnetic valve is de-excited, the high-pressure refrigerant gas in a discharge chamber is supplied to the crank chamber so that the inclination angle of the swash plate is shifted to its minimum inclination from its maximum inclination. An open/close mechanism located in a suction passage gradually opens or closes the suction passage in accordance with the differential pressure between the pressure in the external refrigeration circuit located upstream the open/close mechanism and the pressure in a suction chamber. When the inclination angle of the swash plate is minimized, the open/close mechanism closes the suction passage. It is therefore possible to prevent frosting while also suppressing rapid changes in load torque.

Control apparatus for variable displacement compressor

A swash plate is mounted on a drive shaft in a crank chamber. The swash plate rotates integrally with the drive shaft and changes its inclination angle based on the pressure in the crank chamber. Pistons are provided in cylinder bores and coupled to the swash plate. The rotation of the swash plate is converted into reciprocation of each piston in the associated cylinder bore. The pistons'reciprocation draws the gas from a suction chamber into the compression chamber. The gas is compressed and discharged into the discharge chamber. A lug plate that integrally rotates with the drive shaft is mounted on the drive shaft. The lug plate has a receptacle. The receptacle has a pair of side walls that are spaced apart. The swash plate has an arm extending perpendicular to the swash plate. The arm has a distal end surface extending perpendicular to the axis of the drive shaft. The head slides along the receptacle and receives a load from the swash plate.

A reciprocating piston type compressor for compressing refrigerant gas for an automobile air conditioning system is provided with a cylinder block assembly which includes a plurality of cylinder bores, a swash plate chamber and an oiler channel which extends along the one of the end walls of the swash plate chamber. When the refrigerant gas, which flows rotationally in the swash plate chamber due the rotating swash plate, contacts the oiler channel, the lubricating oil mist, in the refrigerant gas flow in the swash plate chamber induced by the rotation of the swash plate, is separated from the refrigerant gas and the separated lubricating oil is introduced into the bearing means by the oiler channel.

A variable capacity single-headed piston type compressor having a cylinder block defining therein a plurality of cylinder bores in which single-headed pistons are reciprocated so as to compress refrigerant gas in response to a rotation of rotation-to-reciprocation converting unit arranged in a crank shaft defined by the cylinder block and a front housing hermetically attached to a front end of the cylinder block, the crank chamber being provided with a suction gas inlet port formed so as to open into the crank chamber, a rear housing hermetically attached to a rear end of the cylinder block and defining a suction chamber for the refrigerant gas before compression and a discharge chamber for the refrigerant gas after compression, the suction chamber being in fluid communication with the crank chamber so as to receive the refrigerant gas from the crank chamber via a fluid passageway for the suction of the refrigerant gas, and a flow regulating valve arranged in the fluid passageway to adjustably change the cross-sectional area of the fluid passageway to thereby control the pressure in the suction chamber.
