There is disclosed an image processing apparatus capable of image masking and trimming in easier manner for an arbitrary image area. The apparatus is capable of designating an image area and another image area in the first-mentioned image area, and different image processings can be applied to said first and second image areas.

An image reading apparatus has a CCD sensor for scanning an original image and outputting an analog image signal, an A/D converter for converting the analog image signal output from the CCD sensor into multi-value data consisting of a plurality of bits in units of pixels, and a selector for changing the number of bits of the multi-value data output from the A/D converter.

There is disclosed a recording apparatus capable of easily overlaying two images. One image is read photoelectrically and supplied as electrical signals, while the other image is stored in a read-only memory and supplied as electrical signals. There is disclosed a collator which can access a desired one of a plurality of recording medium bins at any timing and which allows a maximum utilization of the plurality of bins. The collator includes a transporter for transferring recording medium to bins, a deflector for guiding the recording medium to the selected bin, an empty detector for detecting an empty state of the recording medium in the bins, and a controller for controlling the operation of the deflector such that when a predetermined amount of recording media have been stored in the bin during the recording medium storage operation, the recording media are transferred to other storage, and when said empty detector detects that the recording media have been removed from the bin having the predetermined amount of recording media stored therein, the transport of the recording media to the emptied bin is permitted.

Collator having a transfer capability

A recording apparatus in accordance with the invention has an optical system including a laser oscillator for forming an electrostatic latent image of an original on a photosensitive drum, a developing unit for visualizing the image, a tray for stacking transfer sheets, a transfer charger for transferring the image onto a transfer sheet, a fixer for fixing the image on the transfer sheet, a double transfer detector for detecting double transfer of two or more transfer sheets, a ramp detector for detecting a ramp of the transfer sheet, and a central processing unit for inhibiting feeding of the transfer sheet upon sensing of a double transfer or ramp of transfer sheets. When a double transfer or ramp of transfer sheets occurs, the information which may normally be lost may be printed on a transfer sheet in the right order without requiring interruption of the operation of the recording apparatus, so that the throughput of the recording apparatus may not be degraded.

A conveying device for sheet material used in combination with reproduction apparatus, which is constructed with a sheet conveying pathway, a sheet conveyor to convey a sheet along the conveying pathway, abnormal feeding detector to detect that the sheet is abnormally conveyed along the conveying pathway, a jam detector provided on one part of the sheet conveying pathway at a position backward of the abnormal feeding detector, and to detect the sheet jam, and a control device to control the jam detection operation by the jam detector when the abnormal feeding is detected by the abnormal feeding detector.

Sheet conveying device

A position detecting device for detecting the upper end position of stacked sheet members which are cut into a determined size, transported by a conveyor and successively stacked on a sheet stacking table. Said detecting device is positioned across a transport path of said sheet member in such a manner as to detect the upper end position of sheet members successively stacked on said sheet stacking table.
