According to one embodiment, an alignment processing device includes a light source, a polarizing beam splitter, a first optical system, a second optical system, a first retardation film, a second retardation film, a moving mechanism configured to move a processing substrate in which a thin film is formed, and a controller. Interfering light is formed in an exposure area by first circularly polarized light and second circularly polarized light. The controller performs control so as to repeat a process of exposing part of an area of the thin film by the interfering light and a process of moving the processing substrate.

Alignment processing device and manufacturing method of liquid crystal optical element

A liquid crystal element is provided that can inhibit occurrence of voltage drop between one end and the other end of each electrode. A liquid crystal element () includes a liquid crystal layer LQ, a plurality of first arcuate electrodes (), and a plurality of second arcuate electrodes (). The first arcuate electrodes () are disposed concentrically about an optical axis (AX) of the liquid crystal element () and applies first voltage (V) to the liquid crystal layer (LQ). The second arcuate electrodes () are disposed concentrically about the optical axis (AX) and applies second voltage (V) to the liquid crystal layer (LQ).

Liquid crystal element

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical element includes an optical waveguide including a first main surface and a second main surface opposed to the first main surface, an alignment film disposed on the second main surface, a liquid crystal layer which overlaps the alignment film, which includes cholesteric liquid crystals, and which reflects at least part of light incident through the optical waveguide toward the optical waveguide, and a transparent first protective layer which overlaps the liquid crystal layer, and which is formed of a water-soluble polymer or a fluorine-based resin.

Liquid crystal optical element and method for manufacturing the same

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical element includes a transparent substrate including a main surface, an alignment film disposed on the main surface, and a liquid crystal layer overlapping the alignment film and including a cholesteric liquid crystal including liquid crystal molecules stacked helically and an additive exhibiting a liquid crystalline property. In the liquid crystal layer, a reflective surface along which alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules are identical is inclined with respect to the main surface.

A liquid crystal element () includes a plurality of unit electrodes (), a liquid crystal layer (LQ), and a plurality of wall members (WL). Each of the unit electrodes () includes a first electrode () and a second electrode (). A voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer (LQ) from each of the unit electrodes (). The wall members (WL) are arranged in the liquid crystal layer (LQ). The liquid crystal layer (LQ) has a waveform retardation (RT). The insulating layer () has a thickness (ts) smaller than a thickness (th) of the resistance layer ().

An optical elementincludes a first layer (A) and a second layer (A) that faces the first layer (A). The first layer (A) includes a plurality of first structural bodies (B) that each have optical anisotropy. In reflection of light entering from the first layer (A), the second layer (A) reflects the light while maintaining a polarization state of the light at incidence and at the reflection. The first layer (A) changes, according to directions of orientation of the first structural bodies (B), a phase of the light from a phase at incidence to the first layer (A) from outside of the first layer (A) to a phase at output from the first layer (A) toward the second layer (A). The first layer (A) changes the phase of the light from a phase at incidence to the first layer (A) from the second layer (A) to a phase at output from the first layer (A) toward the outside of the first layer (A) according to the directions of orientation of the first structural bodies (B).

A liquid crystal element () includes helical structures (). The liquid crystal element () has a light incidence surface () on which light is incident and a reflective surface () which reflects the light coming through the light incidence surface (). Each helical structure () includes structure units (). Each structure unit () includes liquid crystal molecules () stacked in a twisted manner to form a helix. A second end (E) of one structure unit () of structure units () adjacent to one another in a first direction (A) serves as a first end (E) of the other structure unit (). Directions of orientation of the liquid crystal molecules () at the first ends (E) included in the helical structures () are identical. The reflective surface () includes at least one of the first ends (E) included in each helical structure (). The reflective surface () is non-parallel to the light incidence surface ().

Reflective structure, device, and method for producing reflective structure

A liquid crystal element includes: a first electrode to which a first voltage is applied; a second electrode to which a second voltage is applied; an insulating layer that is an electrical insulator; a highly resistive layer; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal; a third electrode to which a third voltage is applied; a first boundary layer that is an electrical insulator; and a second boundary layer that faces the first boundary layer with the insulating layer therebetween. The insulating layer is located among the first electrode, the second electrode, and the highly resistive layer, and insulates the first electrode, the second electrode, and the highly resistive layer from one another. The highly resistive layer has an electric resistivity higher than each of electric resistivities of the first electrode and the second electrode, and lower than an electric resistivity of the insulating layer.
