A method of manufacturing display panels includes forming a material layer on a substrate, and baking the material layer formed on substrate which is placed on a supporting bed. The supporting bed is formed of a first supporting bed and a second supporting bed placed on the first supporting bed. A difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the second supporting bed and the substrate is smaller than a difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the first supporting bed and the substrate, and the substrate is placed on the second supporting bed such that the substrate is positioned entirely within the perimeter of the second supporting bed during the baking and heating. This structure allows reduction of scratches on a surface of the substrate.

Method of manufacturing display panel, and supporting bed for substrate of the display panel

An object of the present invention is to provide a technique for relatively easily suppressing the yellowing of a Plasma Display Panel in which electrodes comprising silver are disposed on the substrates, and thus render image displays with high luminance and high quality. In order to achieve the object, an arrangement is made in which the electrodes comprising silver further include an element whose standard electrode potential is lower than that of silver, such as Cr, Al, In, B, and Ti, or a compound of such an element, as a silver ionization inhibiting substance.

A PDP has first and second substrates which face each other with a space in between. A display electrode pair and a dielectric layer are formed on the first substrate, and a plurality of discharge cells are formed between the first and second substrates along the display electrode pair. In this construction, two or more depressions are provided in the dielectric layer in an area corresponding to each discharge cell. This improves luminous intensity and illumination efficiency. Also, to form the dielectric layer on the first substrate, first a transfer film is made by providing a dielectric precursor layer on a support film, then depressions are formed in the dielectric precursor layer of the transfer film, and lastly the dielectric precursor layer of the transfer film is transferred onto the first substrate. This decreases the number of manufacturing steps and increases the yield, thereby reducing manufacturing costs.

Plasma display panel and method for increasing charge capacity of a display cell

A plasma display panel is disclosed. It can display quality videos and its manufacturing steps can be reduced. A pair of substrates (), () confront each other to form dischargeable space () in between. At least front one () of the substrates is transparent, and includes display electrodes () formed of scan electrodes () and sustain electrodes (), as well as light-blocking sections () corresponding to non-dischargeable sections () disposed between the display electrodes (). The other substrate () facing to rear includes phosphor layers (R), (G), (B) which emit light by discharging. Each one of display electrodes () is formed of transparent electrodes (), () and bus electrodes (), () which are formed of a plurality of electrode-layers. At least one of the electrode-layers is made of black layer () having a specific volume resistance ranging from 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;cm to 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;cm, and light-blocking sections () are made of identical material of black layer ().

The plasma display panel disclosed has a front substrate and a rear substrate positioned to face each other. The front substrate includes display electrodes provided with scan electrodes and sustain electrodes, and a light-shield provided on a non-discharge area between display electrodes. A rear substrate includes phosphor layers to emit light by discharge. The display electrodes are composed of transparent electrodes, and bus electrodes. The bus electrodes are composed of a plurality of electrode layers and at least one of the electrodes is composed of a black layer having a product of the resistivity and layer thickness of not larger than 2 &#x3a9;cm. A light-shield is composed of a black layer with the resistivity of not smaller than 1&#xd7;10&#x3a9;cm.

A method of producing a gas discharge panel includes forming a surrounding unit by positioning a first panel and a second panel together with barrier ribs to partition the space between the panels into cells for light emission when charged with a plasma gas and appropriately addressed. An anti-sealing material inflow rib surrounds the barrier ribs. Sealing material is positioned outside the anti-sealing material inflow rib. The pressure inside the surrounding unit is adjusted to be lower than pressure outside the surrounding unit while applying heat to fuse the sealing material between the first panel and the second panel whereby sealing material is prevented from inflowing into the cells between the barrier ribs during production.

A manufacturing method for a gas discharge display panel includes a disposing step of disposing on a substrate, material of one of an electrode, a dielectric layer, a barrier rib, and a phosphor layer; and a baking step of baking the substrate on which the material has been disposed, while the substrate is carried on a support platform. The support platform has at least one channel in a surface thereof on which the substrate is placed, extending from a covered area covered by the substrate through to an exposed area not covered by the substrate.

Accordingly, even when Ag is ionized from an electrode consisting essentially of Ag to diffuse to a dielectric layer, Ag does not aggregate to be formed into a colloid with an ionized state kept. Therefore, yellowing and dielectric breakdown caused by Ag turning to colloid can be restricted.

It is aimed to provide a technique for easily suppressing swellings produced in end parts of partitions, thereby achieving a PDP capable of displaying a high-quality image. A PDP therefore has a plurality of partitions that include: (a) a plurality of main parts; and (b) a plurality of sub parts that each extend from an end part of one of the plurality of main parts parallel to a direction perpendicular to a direction in which the main parts extend. This allows each partition to have an end that is wider than a center part of the partition. A method is provided to steadily produce a gas discharge panel, such as a PDP, in which a panel and the top of the barrier ribs are in intimate contact in entirety. First a surrounding unit for the gas discharge panel is formed, then a process for sealing the surrounding unit with a sealing material inserted between two panels at the rim is performed while pressure is adjusted so that pressure inside the surrounding unit is lower than pressure outside. With this construction, the panels constituting the surrounding unit are bonded together while they are pressurized from outside. As a result, a panel and the top of the barrier ribs on the other panel are bonded together while they are in intimate contact in entirety. To fully acquire these effects, it is preferable that the adjustment of pressure starts before the sealing material hardens. During, before, or after the sealing step, an energy such as laser beams or ultrasonic waves may be radiated onto the top of the barrier ribs to bond a panel and the top of the barrier ribs in entirety almost without a gap between them.

A plasma display device having improved efficiency and increased image quality. This device includes a pair of front and back substrates opposed to each other to form between the substrates a discharge space partitioned by barrier ribs, a plurality of display electrodes each disposed on the front substrate to form a discharge cell between the barrier ribs, a dielectric layer formed above the front substrate to cover the display electrodes, and a phosphor layer which emits light by discharge between the display electrodes. The dielectric layer is constructed of at least two layers of different dielectric constants and is formed with, at its surface closer to the discharge space, a recessed part in each discharge cell. This limits a discharge region, thus realizing highly efficient discharge. The structure having the two layers of different dielectric constants can suppress crosstalk even if this structure has reduced thickness.

Display panel and manufacturing method for the same including bonding agent application method

A plasma display panel is formed with a plurality of partitions that include a plurality of main parts and a plurality of subparts that can extend from an end part of one or more of the plurality of main parts in a direction perpendicular to the main parts, to thereby provide an end part that is wider than a central part of the partition. The increased size of the end parts prevent swellings that may occur during the production process. Additionally, as part of the method of forming the partitions, the end parts of the partitions can be further partially heated to a temperature higher than a softening point of the partition material, for example, by an application of energy from a laser beam to further address the swelling problem.
