An object of the present invention is to provide a highly versatile master batch for producing a fiber-reinforced resin composition with high strength even when a highly hydrophobic resin is used as a resin for dilution (a resin that constitutes a fiber-reinforced resin composition). The master batch contains AcylMFs (A), a Pm (B), and a Com (C) and is for use in the production of a fiber-reinforced resin composition by mixing with a Pd (D), wherein the AcylMFs (A), Pm (B), Com (C), and Pd (D) satisfy the following conditions: (a) the AcylMFs (A) have an SPof 10 or more; (b) the Pm (B) has an SPof 9 to 15, and the SPis equal to or greater than the SPof the Pd (D); and (c) the Com (C) has an SPequal to or less than the SPof the AcylMFs (A).

An object of the present invention is to provide a fiber-reinforced resin composition in which fibers with good dispersibility and a resin in which the fibers are easily dispersed have been suitably composited; and a method for producing the fiber-reinforced resin composition. Specifically, the object is to provide a fiber-reinforced resin composition that comprises chemically modified CNFs and a thermoplastic resin, and that has improved physical properties due to the suitable compositing of the fibers with the resin; and a method for producing the fiber-reinforced resin composition. The fiber-reinforced resin composition comprises chemically modified CNFs (A) and a thermoplastic resin (B), wherein the chemically modified CNFs and the thermoplastic resin satisfy the following conditions: (a) the ratio R of the solubility parameter (SP) of the chemically modified CNFs (A) to the solubility parameter (SP) of the thermoplastic resin (B), SP/SP, is in the range of 0.87 to 1.88; and (b) the chemically modified CNFs (A) have a degree of crystallinity of 42.7% or higher.

The present invention provides a method for producing a resin composition, which, by means of simple steps, can uniformly disperse microfibrillated plant fiber in a highly hydrophobic resin and can impart enhanced mechanical strength to a molding material obtained by molding the resin composition. The present invention relates to anionically modified microfibrillated plant fibers used for obtaining a thermosetting resin molding material having excellent mechanical strength, a method for manufacturing the same, a molding material containing the anionically modified microfibrillated plant fibers and a thermosetting resin, and a method for manufacturing the same. A nanofiber sheet that has a high degree of transparency, a high modulus of elasticity, a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion as well as high degrees of flatness and smoothness, in particular, a nanofiber sheet produced as a uniform and flat sheet having a high optical transmittance with cellulose as the only component. Although a microfibrillated cellulose has been conventionally added to a resin molded article for the purpose of improving the properties of resin such as strength, it is only possible to achieve the same level of strength as that of the resin itself. The object is to provide a resin molded article of greater strength. A molded article can be produced by blending resin with a microfibrillated cellulose having a type-II crystalline structure produced by treating a microfibrillated cellulose with an alkali solution. The molded article can be largely increased in tensile strength or flexural strength, tensile strain at break or flexural strain at break, and fracture toughness (work-of-fracture) compared to a molded article produced with resin containing a conventional microfibrillated cellulose.

A highly transparent fiber composite material is provided that can be manufactured through a simplified process using reduced amounts of raw materials and that has high flexibility and low thermal expansivity and retains good functionality of the fiber material. The fiber composite material includes: a fiber assembly having an average fiber diameter of 4 to 200 nm and a 50 &#x3bc;m-thick visible light transmittance of 3% or more; and a coating layer that coats and smoothes the surface of the fiber assembly, wherein the fiber composite material has a 50 &#x3bc;m-thick visible light transmittance of 60% or more. With this fiber assembly, the scattering of light caused by the irregularities on the surface can be suppressed by coating the surface with the coating layer to smooth the surface, whereby a highly transparent fiber composite material can be obtained.

Fiber composite material and method for manufacturing the same

Disclosed is a highly transparent fiber-reinforced composite material including an assembly of cellulose fibers of 4 to 200 nm average fiber diameter impregnated with a matrix material so as to not only remedy the moisture absorbency attributed to cellulose fibers but also further improve transparency. There is provided a fiber-reinforced composite material including an assembly of cellulose fibers impregnated with a matrix material. In the fiber-reinforced composite material, hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers are chemically modified through a reaction with one or more chemical modifiers selected from the group consisting of an acid, an alcohol, a halogenating reagent, an acid anhydride, and an isocyanate so that the ratio of a functional group introduced by the chemical modification is 5 to 40 percent by mole based on the hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers before the chemical modification. The chemical modification of hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers can reduce the hydrophilicity of cellulose fibers to thereby reduce the moisture absorbency of fiber-reinforced composite material. Further, the affinity between cellulose fibers and matrix material can be enhanced to thereby further improve transparency.
