A target tubular member with flange, such as a bumper stay, has a flange having an outer diameter larger than the diameter of an axial section and is formed by electromagnetic forming without excessive expansion. The tubular member with flange includes an axial member made of a tubular aluminum alloy extrudate and a flange member joined to an end of the axial member. The axial member has an end flange being integrated at its end and having an area smaller than that of the flange member. The flange member has a hole, and a cylindrical hole flange at the edge of the hole. The axial member fits in the hole of the flange member, the end flange is in intimate contact with the flange member, and the outer periphery of a small-diameter portion of the axial member is in intimate contact with the inner periphery of the hole flange. The hole flange is held between the end flange and a protrusion. The tubular member with flange may be produced by inserting an untreated pipe into the hole of the flange member and expanding the untreated pipe by electromagnetic forming.

Axial member with flange, connection member and production methods thereof

A metal mold for electromagnetic forming, with the inner peripheral face thereof, serving as a forming face, is disposed on the outer peripheral side of a columnar workpiece, and a coil for electromagnetic forming is disposed on the inner peripheral side of the columnar workpiece. In a state of a configuration as described, electric energy is thrown into the coil for the electromagnetic forming, and the columnar workpiece is caused to undergo flaring to be thereby pressed against the forming face of the metal mold for the electromagnetic forming, so as to be turned into a shape corresponding to the forming face by means of the electromagnetic forming, thus obtaining a wheel rim. A disc is welded to the wheel rim obtained, and curling is applied to outer edges of the wheel rim. With the adoption of a method of manufacturing an automotive wheel, a manufacturing process as a whole is enhanced in efficiency.

A door beam to obtain a maximal load and an energy absorption required in no need of increase in weight without occurrence of rupture thereof and to have deformation of a cross-section effected in a stable manner even when a length of the door beam is shortened, wherein a cross-section that a compression-side flange and a tension-side flange are connected parallel to each other, by at least one web in a section perpendicular to a length direction and central lines of the compression-side flange and the tension-side flange are shifted from each other.

An aluminum extruded door beam includes an outer flange, an inner flange, and at least one web for connecting the outer flange and the inner flange. The outer corners at the extended ends of the outer flange have a radius R of 2.5 mm or less. The outward corners at the connections between the web and the inner flange and between the web and the outer flange have a radius R of 2 mm to 4 mm. The radius of the outward corners at the connections between the web and the inner flange and between the web and the outer flange is 1.5 to 2 times the width of the web. The length of the extended ends of the outer flange is 1 to 2 times the radius R of the outward corner at the connections between the web and the outer and inner flanges. The aluminum alloy extruded door beam material contains 0.8 to 1.5% by weight (hereinafter the same) of Mg and 4 to 7% of Zn, and the recrystallization surface layer has a thickness of 50 &mgr;m or less.

Provided is an energy absorbing member which makes it possible to induce contraction and deformation into a form of bellows, with Euler's buckle being restrained. An energy absorbing member comprises a hollow extrusion which is made of an aluminum alloy and has an outer portion and an inner rib connected to the outer portion, and the radius of the corner where the rib and the outer portion are connected to each other is not more than a half of the thickness of the rib. A similar energy absorbing member has plural inner ribs which are connected to the outer portion and cross each other, and the radius of the corner where the ribs cross each other is 1 mm or less.
