A process for the preparation of chlorinated polyvinyl aromatic compound is described, comprising the steps of: (1) in an aromatic organic solvent, forming a solution of an aromatic compound represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 is selected from hydrogen and an alkyl groups containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, or R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 can together form a ring by ##STR2## wherein each of R.sup.7, R.sup.8, R.sup.9, and R.sup.10 is selected from hydrogen and an alkyl group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and n has an average value of from 50 to 30,000; and (2) subjecting the solution to electrolysis reaction in the pressure of an aqueous solution containing chloride ions.

A process for producing cyclized isoprene polymers having a dispersion degree not higher than 2, which comprises living-polymerizing isoprene monomers using as initiator an organometal compound which is expressed by a general formula RM (where R is alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group and M is lithium, sodium or potassium atom), to obtain an isoprene polymer having a dispersion degree not larger than 1.1, which is close to a unit dispersion, and bringing the obtained polymer into contact with a catalyst composed of a boron trifluoride-ether complex and a carboxylic acid expressed by a general formula Cl.sub.3-n H.sub.n CCOOH (where n is an integer ranging from 0 to 3) under a mild condition. The cyclized polymer is very useful for negative resists in integrated circuits.

Process for producing a high purity cyclized polymer of isoprene

A method for preparing a chlorinated vinyl aromatic polymer, comprises dissolving a vinyl aromatic polymer represented by the general formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 may be the same or different and each represents hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 lower alkyl group, and n is an integer of from 50 to 30,000, in an organic solvent, and subjecting it to an electrolytic reaction in the presence of an aqueous solution containing chlorine ions.
