A lithium secondary battery is provided. The battery comprises: a positive electrode and a negative electrode which each has a specific composition and specific properties; and a nonaqueous electrolyte which contains a cyclic siloxane compound of formula (1), a fluorosilane compound of formula (2), a compound of formula (3), compound having an S&#x2014;F bond in the molecule, nitric acid salt, nitrous acid salt, monofluorophosphoric acid salt, difluorophosphoric acid salt, acetic acid salt, or propionic acid salt in an amount of 10 ppm or more of the whole nonaqueous electrolyte.

To provide a carbon material capable of suppressing excessive reactivity with an electrolytic solution and excellent in a rapid charge/discharge characteristics. A carbon material for lithium ion secondary batteries, which satisfies: (i) a tap density&#x2267;0.75 g/cm; (ii) a Raman R value&#x2267;0.23 and a half width of D band &#x394;&#x3bd;&#x3c;45 cm, in which the D band appears in the vicinity of 1,358 cmof the Raman spectrum; and (iii) 4 m/g&#x2266;BET specific surface area (SA)&#x2266;11 m/g.

Negative electrode material for nonaqueous secondary battery

A negative-electrode material is provided that can be produced at a low cost and yields a lithium secondary battery with an excellent balance of various battery characteristics even when used in high electrode densities. It has a graphite powder with a tap density of 0.80 g/cmor higher and 1.35 g/cmor lower, an amount of surface functional groups, O/C value, of 0 or larger and 0.01 or smaller, a BET specific surface area of 2.5 m/g or larger and 70 m/g or smaller, a Raman R value of 0.02 or larger and 0.05 or smaller.

A subject is to provide a nonaqueous secondary battery which is sufficiently low in charge/discharge irreversible capacity in initial cycling even when an active-material layer comprising a negative-electrode material and formed on a current collector is densified for capacity increase where the subject is accomplished with composite graphite particles for a nonaqueous secondary battery which comprise a composite of spherical graphite particles and a binder graphite and which satisfy at least one of (a) to (g) conditions as presently claimed and a negative electrode produced using the carbonaceous negative-electrode material according to the invention is excellent in electrolytic-solution infiltration and provides a nonaqueous secondary battery having excellent charge/discharge high-load characteristics.
