A printing method is provided for use with a printer which reads and then outputs to a printer head a fixed number of bits at a time so as to permit the printer to use a printer head having a number of nozzles which is different than the fixed number of bits. According to this technique, bit data corresponding to an image band to be printed is obtained, the band including multiple pixel arrays, the pixels in each pixel array being arranged in a manner similar to the nozzles in a printer head. In a first loading step, bit data for m pixels of an i-th pixel array are loaded into a register in the printer head, m being a predetermined integer, and i being an arbitrary integer. In a second loading step, bit data for n pixels of an (i+1)-th pixel array are loaded into the register in the printer head, n being a predetermined integer. Finally, the printer head is caused to print an array of dots based on the contents of a register which includes the bit data loaded pursuant to the first and second loading steps, the printed array of dots corresponding to the i-th pixel array.

Technique for printing with different printer heads

A word-processing system selectably operable with a primary character set or at least one secondary character set. The system includes an input device for inputting a character, a selection device for selecting one of the primary character set and the secondary character set, a processor for generating secondary character graphics data corresponding to the character input by the input device in the case that the secondary character set is selected, a CGROM which stores character graphics data for the primary character set, and a CGRAM which stores the secondary character graphics data generated by the processor in the case where a secondary character set is selected, the CGRAM having a memory capacity which is less than that of the CGROM.

Word-processing system for displaying primary and secondary language

A spell verification method and apparatus which comprises inputting characters and operational modes by keystrokes, printing input characters, providing a read only memory having plural dictionaries with spelling information, each dictionary including different but complementary dictionary entries, and executing program steps by a single chip microprocessor which includes an internal memory for storing program steps to control functions of the printer via a dedicated interface port and to control a spell verification function of the electronic typewriter. The single chip microprocessor further includes a detector for detecting whether the read only memory is connected to a dedicated interface port of the single chip microprocessor. Upon determining the status of the connection, the single chip microprocessor either enables or disables the spell verification function.

An image printer includes a controller for controlling image printer operations, an image storing device for storing image data, an image printer including a print head for printing image data stored in the image storing device and a print position setter for setting a print position of the image printing means. The controller provides current position data to the print position setter, and the left print position is set in accordance with a current position of the print head of the image printer. A right position is set by adding a horizontal printing width of the stored image to the left print position. Alternatively, the controller provides current position data to the print position setter, and the right print position of the stored image is set to a current position of the print head of the image printer and a left position is set by subtracting a horizontal printing width of the stored image from the right print position. In either case, the print head is moved to the set positions and the operator is provided with the opportunity to alter the positions if the positions are deemed unacceptable.

Method and apparatus for positioning an image onto a recording medium

An impact-type printing device includes a printer for printing characters with a plurality of impression pressures including a high impression pressure sufficient for printing on all of the sheets of a set of copy sheets. The device also include a keyboard having a key for selecting one of the plurality of impression pressures when the device operates in a normal operation mode. The device further includes a switch for switching the device between the normal operation mode and a copy mode of operation. In the normal mode the printer is capable of printing in any of the plurality of impression pressures selected by the operator at the keyboard. In the copy mode the printer prints only with a high pressure, sufficient for printing on all of the sheets of the set of copy sheets. The device also erases a previously printed character when in the normal mode and overstrikes the previously printed character in the copy mode.
