The filter for cigarette product includes a mouthpiece end side-filter material and a front stage-filter material. The mouthpiece end side-filter material has a low air flow-resistance unit that is arranged in a part of a cross section from a front end surface to a rear end surface and having a relatively low air flow-resistance, and a high air flow-resistance unit that is arranged in the remainder of the cross section from the front end surface to the rear end surface and having a higher air flow-resistance than the low air flow-resistance unit. At least on the rear end surface of the mouthpiece end side-filter material, the low air flow-resistance unit is arranged only in one semicircular area, of two parts into which the cross section of the mouthpiece end side-filter material is divided.

A filter manufacturing machine includes a forming device for forming filter tow into a hollow rod-shaped continuous filter body, a forming tube included in the forming device and having a tubular forming path through which the filter tow is passed while being brought together, a mandrel arranged in the forming tube and forming the tubular forming path in cooperation with the forming tube, and a heat treating section included in the forming tube and configured to heat the filter tow while the filter tow passes through the tubular forming path. The mandrel has a small-diameter portion located at the inlet of the forming tube, a large-diameter portion located at the outlet of the forming tube, and a diameter expansion portion located between the small- and large-diameter portions. The diameter expansion portion is located downstream of the heat treating section as viewed in the moving direction of the filter tow.

A cigarette filter includes a filter body and flavor granules added to the filter body, wherein the flavor granules each comprise a core material and a flavor-carrying carrier adhered to the surface of the core material, and wherein the flavor granules have a grain size distribution such that granules having a grain size of 100 &#x3bc;m or larger make up 99% by mass or more of the flavor granules and granules having a grain size of 200 &#x3bc;m or larger make up 70% by mass or more of the flavor granules.

Cigarette filter

A filter-manufacturing machine comprises spray nozzles located on both sides of a feeding path of sheet material made of filter fibers, respectively, and the spray nozzles each have a line of spray holes of a liquid binder with high viscosity and a plurality of air jetting openings for jetting compressed air. The liquid binder sprayed from the lines of the spray holes is subdivided into particles by the compressed air, thereby spraying the particles of the liquid binder evenly on both surfaces of the sheet material.

Filter manufacturing machine

A wrapping paper defect inspection apparatus for a cigarette manufacturing machine is provided which permits easy and reliable detection of a defect, such as a pinhole, in elongate wrapping paper continuously transported at high speed and which is suited for rejecting without fail cigarettes formed using a defective portion of the wrapping paper. Optical sensors are arranged at a transportation path of the wrapping paper for detecting transmission of light irradiated onto a region of the wrapping paper excluding the edge portions thereof, and a defect in the wrapping paper, such as a pinhole, is detected in accordance with whether or not the optical sensors have received light. Further, a pair of auxiliary optical sensors are provided for detecting transmission of light irradiated to regions including the respective edge portions of the wrapping paper, and based on the sum of amounts of light received by the auxiliary optical sensors, a defective or narrower portion of the wrapping paper than a prescribed width is detected. The result of defect detection is output in synchronism with the timing for wrapping shredded tobacco in the wrapping paper, to reject defective cigarettes.
