An adder mixes an L-channel sound signal and an R-channel sound signal with each other and then outputs a mixed signal. A switching unit performs a switching operation such that, if power is being supplied to loudspeaker amplifiers, the L-channel sound signal and the R-channel sound signal are respectively supplied to the loudspeaker amplifiers, and if power is not being supplied to the loudspeaker amplifier, an output signal of the adder is supplied to the loudspeaker amplifier. A power down control unit forces a loudspeaker amplifier to which power is not supplied and a preamplifier for driving the loudspeaker amplifier to be in a power-down state.

An audio signal processor is composed of a data path unit, a mode register and a state machine unit. The data path unit applies one or more arithmetical operation to an audio signal for performing signal processing of the audio signal. The mode register stores mode information specifying the signal processing to be performed by the data path unit. The state machine unit sequentially feeds control signals according to the mode information for enabling the data path unit to apply one or more arithmetical operation to the audio signal so as to perform the signal processing. The performed signal processing is composed of the one or more arithmetical operations, and is specified by the mode information stored in the mode register.

Tone generating sequence data are sequentially read out in accordance with a performance sequence, and tone generation control parameters are decoded from the read-out sequence data. The decoded tone generation control parameters are sequentially written into a control register. Tone signals are generated on the basis of the tone generation control parameters written in the control register. Pattern register stores pattern data representative of a time series of driven states to be taken by a plurality of light emitting elements. On the basis of the tone generation control parameters written in the control register, the pattern data stored in the pattern register are sequentially output to illuminate the light emitting elements. Particular pattern data may be stored in association with a particular caller so that, when an incoming call has been received from the particular caller, the pattern data specific to the particular caller are read out to illuminate the light emitting elements.

A musical tone control waveform signal generating apparatus is provided in order to generate a musical tone control waveform signal by which a musical tone generated from an electronic musical instrument is to be controlled. The musical tone control waveform signal is varied in its envelop level by each of time-division sections to be passed over a lapse of time. For instance, when a key-depression event is occurred, this musical tone control waveform signal of each time-division section is formed by carrying out a computation by use of parameters which are preset with respect to each section. Preferably, the parameters concern with the variation rate and target level of the musical tone control waveform signal to be formed by each section.

A waveform-forming device has a waveform memory storing a plurality of blocks of waveform samples representative of a waveform of a musical tone. Each block is formed of at least one non-compressed waveform sample and a plurality of compressed waveform samples. A pitch of a musical tone to formed is taken in. The compressed waveform samples contained in each block are converted into non-compressed waveform samples. Two tone sources having different tone generation systems such as an FM tone source and a PCM tone source are provided. Tone signals are generated in the two tone sources in response to tone generation designation information such as keyboard performance information. One of the tone sources synthesizes a tone by employing a modulation operation such as FM or AM and, as a modulating signal supplied thereto, an output tone signal of the other tone source can be selectively used. A single complex tone color is constructed of plural element tone colors and which tone source should generate a partial tone signal corresponding to each element tone color can be designated individually with respect to each element tone color in response to element type information. With respect to a desired element tone color, editing of contents of its parameter information can be made as desired. In data editing, data of a desired complex tone color is transferred to an edit memory section and editing is applied to data stored therein. The number of tone signals to be generated simultaneously in response to common tone generation designation information can be set as desired and generated tone signals are added and synthesized to form a single tone signal. In this manner, a more complex and diversified tone can be formed as desired.

An electronic musical instrument having a pan control function includes a pan device for deciding a synthesizing rate of the plural wave form elements in each of the musical tone output terminals independently. Static pan control fixes an image position of a musical tone, and dynamic pan control changes the image position with lapse of time. The dynamic pan control also includes EG pan control which changes the image position on a pre-stored orbit and bias pan control which changes the image position based on specified data during playing. In addition to an operator, such as a jog dial and a modulation wheel, key touch data or key number data can be used for the bias pan control. This musical instrument can synthesize a musical tone signal by combining the pan control functions to each wave form element, thereby forming very widened musical tones.

A musical tone signal generating apparatus provides at least plural modulation operation systems and plural memories, wherein each of the modulation operation systems carries out the predetermined modulation operation on each of plural pieces of input information applied thereto so that each of the memories stores the operation result thereof as the waveform information. These modulation operation systems are connected together such that plural pieces of waveform information stored in the memories are selectively supplied to each modulation operation system. By changing over the connections between the modulation operation systems and memories in the time-sharing system, the waveform operation is carried out based on the predetermined algorithms for forming the musical tone signal. Preferably, the predetermined modulation operation is the frequency-modulation operation.

The key scaling apparatus for an electronic musical instrument having a keyboard includes a memory unit having plural memory areas associated respectively with plural notes or note groups represented by plural keys or key groups of the keyboard; manipulator knobs for producing desired musical tone preparing instruction signals determining the characteristics of the musical tone to be produced; registering means for writing, in those memory areas corresponding to a desired note or note group designated by an operated key, the instruction signals produced by the manipulated knobs; and control means for controlling, when a performance mode is designated, the musical tone to be produced bearing the characteristics as designated by the instruction signals read out from the related memory areas upon operation of a key. This apparatus allows the user to arbitrarily set a desired key scaling characteristic curve, and to alter the preset curves by mere manipulation of knobs, wherein easily realizing musical performances on the electronic musical instrument which are close to those produced by natural musical instruments.

The pitch designating unit designates a pitch of a musical tone to be produced. The plural pitch data generating unit generates at least two pitch data based on the pitch and in accordance with different scale characteristics. The musical tone generating unit generates at least two musical tone signals based on at least two pitch data respectively, so that at least two musical tone signals have the different scale characteristics.
