A frame equipped membrane electrode assembly includes a membrane electrode assembly and a frame member having a first frame shaped sheet provided on an outer peripheral portion of the membrane electrode assembly. An outer peripheral portion of an electrolyte membrane is provided between a cathode and the first frame shaped sheet, stacked on an outer peripheral portion of the cathode, and joined to an inner peripheral portion of the first frame shaped sheet through an adhesive layer. The elastic modulus of the first frame shaped sheet is larger than the elastic modulus of the electrolyte membrane. The elastic modulus of the adhesive layer is smaller than the elastic modulus of the first frame shaped sheet and the elastic modulus of the electrolyte membrane.

A power generation cell includes a frame member. The frame member includes a first frame shaped sheet and a second frame shaped sheet that are joined together. The second frame shaped sheet is provided outside a cathode through a gap. A method of operating a fuel cell includes supplying a first reactant gas to a channel formed between the frame member and a first separator, a pressure of the first reactant gas being higher than a pressure of a second reactant gas, and supplying the second reactant gas to a channel formed between the frame member and a second separator.

Method of operating fuel cell

A frame equipped membrane electrode assembly includes a membrane electrode assembly and a frame member. The frame member includes a first frame shaped sheet and a second frame shaped sheet. An inner peripheral portion of the first frame shaped sheet is joined to an outer peripheral portion of the membrane electrode assembly. The inner peripheral portion of the first frame shaped sheet is positioned between an outer peripheral portion of an anode and an outer peripheral portion of a cathode. An inner end of the second frame shaped sheet is positioned outside an outer end of the anode over the entire periphery. The outer end of the cathode is positioned outside the inner end of the second frame shaped sheet over the entire periphery.

A fuel cell stack and a method of assembling a fuel cell stack includes compressing fuel cells along their stacking axis. A compression retention device made up of an enclosure may be used with one or more optional insertable shims to correct for any stack height variations. Significantly, the enclosure is formed to allow the stack to be loaded in compression by a press such that the cells that make up the stack are placed into and maintained in a substantially compressed state while the compression force is not imparted to the enclosure. By resolving any stack height variances while the cells of the stack are maintained in their substantially compressed state, assembly operations are simplified in that repeated compression and decompression of the stack is avoided while trying to ensure that the stack and enclosure are joined into their final assembly form.

Fuel cell stack and assembly method of same

A first continuous fiber component and a second continuous fiber component are stacked with a non-woven fabric interposed therebetween to thereby prepare a fiber base material. The fiber base material is placed between an upper mold and a lower mold. The upper mold and the lower mold are brought close to each other to thereby form an enclosed space therebetween. The enclosed space is larger in volume than a product cavity. A liquid matrix resin is supplied to the enclosed space. The upper mold and the lower mold are brought closer to each other to thereby form the product cavity in a manner that a pressing load is applied to the fiber base material. Then, the liquid matrix resin with which the fiber base material has been impregnated is hardened in the product cavity, whereby a fiber-reinforced plastic molded article is produced.

In a four-direction switch device, an outer peripheral surface of a disc-shaped switch knob is provided with first to fourth pivot projections arranged in phase with first to fourth switch operation parts and first to fourth movable stoppers arranged with a phase shift by 45&#xb0; from the projections, respectively, and a switch case is provided with first to fourth fixed stoppers facing lower surfaces of the movable stoppers, respectively. If the knob is pushed at a switch dead part, the knob swings about a straight line connecting a pair of the pivot projections located on an opposite side of the switch dead part, but the movable stopper and the fixed stopper both located below the pushed switch dead part come into contact with each other, thereby avoiding actuation of any switch.

Four-direction switch device

A process for producing a saccharified solution in an improved yield when filtering the mixture obtained by saccharifying lignocellulosic biomass is provided. A mixture containing a saccharified solution and an undecomposed biomass residue by treating a substrate biomass using a saccharification enzyme is obtained. The mixture is filtered to obtain the saccharified solution as a filtrate. Before filtering the mixture, 95% by mass or more of the particles, based on the total amount of particles contained in a centrifuged supernatant of the mixture, is adjusted to have a particle size ranging from 1 to 30 &#x3bc;m.

Process for producing saccharified solution

A fuel cell stack includes a plurality of unit cells stacked in a stacking direction substantially along a direction of gravity. Each of the plurality of unit cells includes a first metal separator, a second metal separator, and a membrane electrode assembly sandwiched between the first metal separator and the second metal. A reactant gas channel allows a reactant gas to flow along a surface of each of the first and second metal separators. A reactant gas inlet manifold and a reactant gas outlet manifold allow the reactant gas to flow the reactant gas inlet manifold and the reactant gas outlet manifold in the stacking direction. A bridge portion forms a connection channel to connect at least the reactant gas outlet manifold to the reactant gas channel. The bridge portion includes a guide portion to break a continuity of condensed water.

Fuel cell stack

A fuel cell stack comprising a second metal separator set to have an external dimension larger than a first metal separator, wherein the second metal separator comprises, formed integrally, a first seal member in contact with the peripheral edge of a first electrolyte membrane/electrode structure, a second seal member in contact with the peripheral edge of the first metal separator, and a third seal member in contact with the peripheral edge of an adjoining fourth metal separator. Since the first seal member, the second seal member and the third seal member are integrally formed on one surface of the second separator or one surface of the first separator, a seal-forming step can be carried out at one effort, simply and economically. In addition, use of a triple seal structure containing the first through the third seal members can favorably improve the sealing feature of reaction gas and minimize reaction gas leakage.

Fuel cell

A fuel cell unit configuring a fuel cell is provided with a first separator, a first electrolyte film/electrode body, a second separator, a second electrolyte film/electrode body, and a third separator. Resin guide members are provided on the outer periphery of the first separator, the second separator, and the third separator. The resin guide members have outer peripheral ends which protrude outwards, and in the aforementioned resin guide members are formed concave reliefs which are spaced inwards from the aforementioned outer peripheral ends.

An assembling operation of a fuel cell is effectively simplified. With the simple and economical structure, the desired sealing function is achieved. The fuel cell () includes a membrane electrode assembly () and first and second metal separators () sandwiching the membrane electrode assembly (). Connection channels () are provided on the first metal separator (). The connection channels () connect the oxygen-containing gas supply passage () and the oxygen-containing gas discharge passage () to the oxygen-containing gas flow field (). The membrane electrode assembly () has first overlapping portions () overlapped on the connection channels () for sealing the connection channels (). The first overlapping portions () comprise, in effect, a gas diffusion layer.

A fuel cell stack includes a stack body formed by stacking a plurality of fuel cells in a stacking direction, and first and second end plates at both ends in the stacking direction. Long sides of the first and second end plates are fixed together by a pair of tightening members. The tightening member includes a bent portion bent in a direction along a surface of the second end plate, and coupled to the pressure application adjustment device, and a wide portion having a width extended toward the first end plate.
