In order to prevent a deck tower from collapsing because two or more decks are drawn at the same surface side of the deck tower, stopper mechanisms for preventing the deck from being drawn are provided at deck shelves at the upper and lower tiers. A deck apparatus includes a stopper member for preventing the decks from being drawn, which is movably mounted, so that the stopper mechanisms at the upper and lower tiers may be linked with each other. It also includes a locking arm for when the stopper member at any shelf is moved to release the deck from being locked, preventing the stopper members at the remaining shelves from moving. The locking arm allows only an deck to be alternatively drawn.

A magnetic tape library apparatus having mechanisms for reengaging a disengaged leader block of any magnetic tape cartridge entered. The apparatus comprises a cell unit having a plurality of cells each accommodating a magnetic tape cartridge, a magnetic tape drive unit for writing and reading data to and from the magnetic tape in the magnetic tape cartridge, and an accessor for automatically switching magnetic tape cartridges between the cell unit and the magnetic tape drive unit. The magnetic tape library apparatus further comprises a stacker for stacking a plurality of magnetic tape cartridges entered externally, and a delivery mechanism for selecting one of the magnetic tape cartridges stacked in the stacker for delivery to the accessor. Adjacent to the delivery mechanism is a hammer mechanism that hits the leader block for engagement with a latch.

A magnetic tape apparatus has an automatic loading mechanism for automatically loading a cartridge containing a recording medium. The magnetic tape apparatus includes, in addition to the automatic loading mechanism, a recording/reproducing unit, a magazine for storing a plurality of cartridges, an accessor for feeding a cartridge, a charger/discharger for charging and discharging a cartridge other than the cartridges stored in the magazine, and a positioning unit for positioning a charged cartridge in a normal position. The magnetic tape apparatus is capable of carrying out special processes including an interrupting process.

A hand mechanism of an accessor, capable of gripping a recording medium cartridge in a horizontal condition thereof. The accessor automatically exchanges the recording medium cartridge between a cell unit having a plurality of cells each accommodating the recording medium cartridge and a recording medium drive unit for performing read/write of data from/to the recording medium cartridge. The hand mechanism includes a base mounted swingably about a vertical axis, a grip hand mounted on the base movably between an advanced position and a retracted position, for gripping the cartridge, and a tray mounted on the base and under the grip hand movably between an advanced position projecting from the base and a retracted position. The hand mechanism further includes a cartridge gripped condition correcting mechanism for correcting a gripped condition of the cartridge gripped by the grip hand.

Recording medium cartridge handling mechanism in library apparatus

A cartridge autoloading apparatus attached to a cartridge recording and retrieval apparatus includes two safety lock mechanisms for stopping abnormal ascending and descending operations of a magazine which accommodates therein a plurality of cartridges. Due to the two safety lock mechanisms, the cartridge autoloading mechanism is safer than a conventional one.
