An illumination device including a light source device, a rotary diffusion plate, which includes a first surface, a second surface, a diffusion section disposed on the first surface, and a detection section disposed on at least one of the first surface and the second surface, and to which light from the light source device is input, a light collecting optical system to which light from the diffusion section is input, a detector adapted to detect light from the detection section, and a control device adapted to control the light source device in accordance with a signal output from the detector. The detection section is disposed at a position different from a position where the light from the light source device enters the diffusion section.

Illumination device and projector

A screen in which observation distance may be adjusted while maintaining image brightness and a projection system using the screen. In a light control layer of a screen, a first angle region that determines a diffusion distribution of a reflected light is different according to the screen position in a control direction in which light diffusion control is performed. Accordingly, a diffusion distribution of image light emitted from a screen surface is adjusted to be tilted downward by an upper end and upward by a lower end according to the screen position. Thus, for example, a size of a diffused angle range is maintained to be 30&#xb0;, and a direction in which the image light is diffusion-emitted corresponds to an assumed position of an observer. The projection image can be observed while maintaining brightness of an image and the observation distance L can be adjusted to be short.

Screen and projection system

A screen which reflects light emitted from a projector includes a light diffusion layer through which light incident from a specific angular region is diffused and transmitted and through which light incident from the other angular region is transmitted straight; area pairs having a mirror forming area and a non-mirror forming area; a light transmissive layer having a back surface, on which the area pairs are disposed, and an opposite surface being bonded to a back side of the light diffusion layer; and a specular reflection film formed on a back surface of each mirror forming area. An inclination of the mirror forming area with respect to a normal line of the screen close to the projector becomes larger than the inclination of the mirror forming area far from the projector within a cross section perpendicular to the mirror forming areas inside the screen.

Refelctive front screen

A screen unit includes: a screen member; a first support member which supports one end of the screen member; a second support member which supports the other end of the screen member; a stretching and contracting device which expands the screen member; and a tensioning member disposed on the side opposite to the side where the screen member is provided with respect to the stretching and contracting device to apply tension in a direction substantially parallel with the direction from the first support member to the second support member.

Screen unit

A screen includes a screen main body, having flexibility, onto which an image light is projected; a first support and a second support which, extending one along each of a pair of opposed edges of the screen main body, each support one of the pair of edges; an auxiliary support which, being disposed between the first support and the second support, extends parallel to the first support and the second support, and supports a pair of intersecting edges intersecting with the pair of edges of the screen main body; and linkage mechanisms which, bridging adjacent supports, among the first support, second support, and auxiliary support, as well as regulating a movement of the adjacent supports in an out-of-plane direction of a projection surface of the screen main body, extend and contract in a direction in which the adjacent supports face each other, bringing the adjacent supports closer to and away from each other.

Screen

A screen includes plural three-dimensional portions having a concave shape arranged at a front surface side of a screen substrate, wherein the three-dimensional portions are disposed so that the number of the three-dimensional portions provided in a range of a given length along a first direction on the screen substrate which is determined corresponding to at least either one of a direction of a chief ray and a chief direction of outside light is larger than the number of three-dimensional portions provided in a range of the given length along a second direction crossing the first direction and in which the plural three-dimensional portions are arranged so that at least two three-dimensional portions of the three-dimensional portions provided in the range of the given length along the first direction contact each other.

A projector includes an image forming device, a projection lens for projecting an image produced by the image forming device, and an external case which accommodates the image forming device and at least a part of the projection lens and has an opening through which a light emission end of the projection lens is exposed. The projection lens has a lens barrel and a plurality of lenses equipped within the lens barrel. The lens barrel has a fixed part and a movable part. A turn table for shifting the movable part of the lens barrel in the direction of the optical axis of the projection lens is provided. The direction of the rotation axis of the turn table is substantially perpendicular to the optical axis of the projection lens. The top surface of the turn table is exposed through the outer surface of the external case.

An illuminator includes a polarization converter that converts source light into first polarized light, a polarization separation member that separates the first polarized light of from the polarization converter and second polarized light different from the first polarized light, by reflection and transmission, a polarization switch member that reflects the first polarized light passed through the polarization separation member and changes same into the second polarized light, and a light guide having a first rod arranged between the polarization converter and the polarization separation member, a second rod arranged between the polarization separation member and the polarization switch member, and a third rod arranged on an optical path of the second polarized light separated by the polarization separation member.
