An auxiliary chamber () having a spark plug () and an auxiliary fuel injector is formed at the central part of the top surface of the main combustion chamber (). When making an air-fuel mixture in the auxiliary chamber () burn by the spark plug (), an air-fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber () is made to burn by jet flames ejected from the communicating holes (). The injection ports of the auxiliary fuel injector () are oriented toward a tumble flow inflow peripheral region (R) which is located on the peripheral part of the end portion of the auxiliary chamber () at a place located on a side where the tumble flow W flows in from the communicating holes (). When the tumble flow (W) is made to be generated in the main combustion chamber () by the tumble flow control valve (), auxiliary fuel (QF) is injected from the auxiliary fuel injector () toward the tumble flow inflow peripheral region (R) of the auxiliary chamber ().

Control system of internal combustion engine

A combustion chamber structure for a spark-ignition internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber, an ignition plug, and a guide portion. The combustion chamber is configured to produce tumble flow that swirls in an axial direction of a cylinder. The ignition plug is disposed in a central portion of an upper wall of the combustion chamber. The guide portion protrudes from the upper wall of the combustion chamber, and is configured to guide airflow passing through the central portion of the combustion chamber in an intake-exhaust direction of the combustion chamber while dispersing the airflow around the guide portion.

Combustion chamber structure of spark-ignition internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine comprises a fuel injector, a spark plug, a pistonhaving a cavity, a swirl control device, and a control system. The cavity is formed so as to change in distance from the fuel injector to a side wall surface of the cavity, in the circumferential direction. The system performs ignition assist control for successively performing injections of main fuel and ignition assist fuel, makes an air-fuel mixture formed by the ignition assist fuel burn by flame propagation by the spark plug, and makes the remaining fuel burn by pre-mix compression self-ignition. The system controls the swirl control device during the ignition assist control so that when the engine load is high, the fuel sprayed heads toward parts of the side wall surface which are short in distances from the fuel injector.

Internal combustion engine

A control system includes a processor for controlling an internal combustion engine having a temperature region, wherein a change of ignition delay time accompanying a rise in a cylinder temperature when the cylinder temperature is in the temperature region is smaller than when the cylinder temperature is out of the temperature region. When a self ignition timing of secondary fuel is earlier than a self ignition timing of primary fuel due to the secondary fuel being injected at a crank angle at which the cylinder temperature is higher than the temperature region, the processor controls a ratio of the secondary fuel to be lower than when the self ignition timing of the secondary fuel is later than the self ignition timing of the primary fuel due to the secondary fuel being injected at a crank angle at which the cylinder temperature is within the temperature region.

Control system for internal combustion engine, internal combustion engine and method of controlling internal combustion engine

A multicylinder engine includes a plurality of intake ports, a plurality of in-cylinder injectors, and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to initially set a value of a control parameter of the multicylinder engine, individually for each of the cylinders, such that there is a common regularity between a distribution among the cylinders, of a difference of the value of the control parameter of each of the cylinders from the value of the control parameter of a reference cylinder, and a distribution among the cylinders, of a difference of the distance of a narrowed portion of each of the cylinders from the distance of the narrowed portion of a reference cylinder. The control parameter is a parameter that determines an air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture around an ignition plug at a time of ignition in stratified charge combustion operation.

Multicylinder engine

In a fuel injection valve having a nozzle hole plate wherein a nozzle hole is formed, the nozzle hole is formed with a flow path cross-section having an oval shape that has long axes and short axes, and the nozzle hole is formed having a tapered shape in which a flow path sectional area becomes larger from an entry-side open end portion toward an exit-side open end portion. The nozzle hole is formed such that a second angle that is an intersecting angle of opposing nozzle hole inner wall surface portions in an oblique section along the short axes of the entry-side open end portion and the exit-side open end portion, is greater than a first angle that is an intersecting angle of opposing nozzle hole inner wall surface portions in a longitudinal section along the long axes of the entry-side open end portion and the exit-side open end portion.

Fuel injection valve

An fuel injection valve has: a needle housed in a valve body in a reciprocable manner; an injection hole plate attached to a front end portion of the valve body, the plate having an injection hole connecting an inside and an outside of the valve body; and a valve sheet which the needle is attached to or detached from so as to close or open a fuel flow path that reaches the injection hole of the injection hole plate through an outer circumference of the needle. The injection hole plate has a recessed portion dented in an axial direction of the needle so as to cause fuel flowing toward the injection hole through the valve sheet to descend lower than a height of an inlet port of the injection hole and then, to turn to ascension so as to reach the inlet port of the injection hole on the injection hole plate.

A fuel injection valve of an internal combustion engine includes a measuring plate that has at least one injection hole. Fuel that has flowed along an inner wall surface of the measuring plate flows into the injection hole through an injection hole entrance that is formed in the inner wall surface of the measuring plate, passes through the injection hole, and is injected through an injection hole exit that is formed in an outer wall surface of the measuring plate. A recess is formed from an injection hole entrance rim to an injection hole exit rim in an upstream section of the inner wall surface of the injection hole in a fuel flow direction along the inner wall surface of the measuring plate.
