To provide an ophthalmic lens container of novel structure, whereby without the use of any special utensil, a liquid such as a preserving solution can be drained, while keeping an ophthalmic lens held in the container. An ophthalmic lens containerincludes a container bodywherein a cavityhas an opening inside faceof generally heart shape in a plane view. A constricted lower end of the lower section of the heart shape in the opening inside face has a circumferential radius of curvature: ra is smaller than a radius of curvature of a front face of the ophthalmic lens, and the two side portions of the heart shape in the opening inside surfaceof the cavityhave the radius of curvature in the circumferential direction greater than the radius of curvature of the front face of the ophthalmic lens; while a diameter dimension of an inscribed circle in the opening of the cavity is greater than the outside diameter dimension of the ophthalmic lens.

A method of manufacturing a contact lens having a mark is provided, wherein the contact lens is provided with a mark at the same time as the polymerization of the contact lens in the mold. The coloring composition, for the mark includes a medium which includes at least one monomer component of the monomer mixture used to form the polymer of the contact lens; and a predetermined dyestuff. A concave molding surface is roughened by forming a multiplicity of minute recesses by sputtering to define a marker portion, and the coloring composition is attached to the roughened concave molding surface. The coloring composition is then prepolymerized in the marker position before the monomer mixture of the contact lens material is introduced into and polymerized in the mold.

Disclosed is an ophthalmic lens storage container comprising: a container body including a lens storage portion having a cavity for storing a lens and a preserving solution, and a flange surrounding the cavity; and a cover sheet stripably sealed to the flange in a sealing zone that extends around the cavity to thereby fluid-tightly seal the lens storage portion. The flange of said container body includes an insulating portion located radially outward of an open-end peripheral portion of the cavity, extending circumferentially and includes a shoulder surface that extends in a first direction opposite to a second direction along which the cavity is exposed, and the sealing zone is located radially outward of the insulating portion of the flange.

A prism ballast type contact lens having a front and a back surface, a center axis of the front surface being offset from that of the back surface which is a geometric center axis of the lens, such that the lens has a thickness which continuously increases in a downward direction of the lens, the lens further having a slab-off area provided in at least a lower portion of the front surface, wherein at least an optical portion of the back surface and the lower portion of the front surface are formed by molding using a mold assembly including a male and a female mold half which are closed to define a mold cavity that gives a lens blank which is formed into the prism ballast type contact lens, the male mold half having a convex molding surface whose profile follows that of the optical portion of the back surface, the female mold half having a concave molding surface whose profile follows that of at least the lower portion of the front surface, the mold cavity being defined by the convex and concave molding surfaces, so as to provide the lens blank having a thickness sufficient to give at least an optical portion of the front surface by cutting.

A trial lens has a lens surface provided with an index. A stable position of the trial lens on a cornea of a wearer thereof is measured by the use of the index. The position of an optical center of a contact lens to be worn by the wearer can be determined based on the measurement done with the index of the trial lens in order to set the position of the optical center of the contact lens so as to fit contact lenses on individual wearers.

Trial lens

A holding device for cutting an ophthalmic lens includes a holding member which has a spherical sliding surface. A support member is provided with a spherical receiving surface which slidably supports the spherical sliding surface of the holding member. In addition, a fixing assembly is provided for adjustably positioning the lens holding member with respect to the support member. The fixing assembly includes a guide member which is rotatable about a support center axis, with the guide member including an eccentric guide hole, such that pins disposed between the guide hole and an extension of the lens holding member move (or adjust the position of) the lens holding member in response to rotation of the guide member. Rotation of the guide member thus results in sliding movement of the lens holding member with respect to the support member to thereby position the holding member with respect to the support member. A jig can be associated with the lens holding member, with the jig including a spherical surface having a spherical center which coincides with the spherical center of the spherical sliding surface of the lens holding member.

Holding device for cutting an ophthalmic lens

A presbyopia correction contact lens to be used in contact with a cornea of an eye of a wearer, the contact lens having a substantially circular central correction region and an annular outer correction region which surrounds the central correction region, the central and outer correction regions providing one and the other of a near vision correction region and a distance vision correction region, respectively, wherein the central correction region has a center which is offset by a distance of 0.2 mm-2.4 mm from a geometric center of the contact lens toward a side portion of the lens, which side portion is to be located on the side of the nose of the wearer when the contact lens is used in contact with the cornea, and the central correction region has a diameter within a range of 0.8 mm-3.5 mm.
