A printing apparatus includes: a first nozzle which elects a first ink used to print an image on a medium and cured by irradiation of light; a pre-curing light source which emits a pre-curing light to dots formed as the first ink ejected from the first nozzle is landed onto the medium; a second nozzle which ejects a second ink used to coat a surface of the medium and cured by irradiation of light onto the medium after being irradiated by the light from the pre-curing light source; and a main-curing light source which emits a main-curing light to the medium, wherein the irradiation energy of the light emitted to a unit area of the medium from the pre-curing light source is changed according to whether the second ink is ejected from the second nozzle.

Printing apparatus and printing method

A liquid ejecting apparatus includes the following elements. A carriage allows a head ejecting liquid which is curable by light irradiation to move in the moving direction intersecting the transporting direction in which a medium is transported. A precuring light source, provided for the carriage, radiates light for precuring to dots formed by applying the liquid ejected from the moving head onto the medium. A full curing light source is provided for the carriage so as to be located downstream of the precuring light source in the transporting direction. The full curing light source radiates light for full curing to the dots which have been irradiated with light for precuring.

A printing device includes a head, a radiation unit and a control unit. The head is configured to eject metallic ink including a plurality of longitudinal metal fragments onto a medium. An ink jet recording material of the invention includes a polyolefin resin-covered paper substrate, an ink absorption layer and a layer principally including colloidal silica in this order at one face of the substrate, and a backcoat layer at an opposite face of the substrate. A 20&#xb0; glossiness of a blank portion of a face of the recording material that features the ink absorption layer is 40 to 60%.

An ink jet recording apparatus of the invention includes (1) a precoater for applying a coat of a pretreatment, (2) an ejector for ejecting the ink, (3) an overcoater for at least depositing a posttreatment on the ink, (4) a recorder recording print modes corresponding to the types of recording medium, (5) a selector for selecting one of the print modes from the recorder based on the type of the recording medium, and (6) a drive controller for controlling the operation of the precoater, the ejector, and the overcoater based on the selection result.
