The present invention provides a gas-barrier film which is produced through applying a layer containing a metallic compound to a surface of a processed-polymer layer produced from a mixture of a polyalcohol and at least one poly(meth)acrylic polymer selected from the group consisting of poly(meth)acrylic acids and partially neutralized poly(meth)acrylic acids. The invention also provides a laminated gas-barrier film containing the aforementioned gas-barrier film either surface of which is laminated on with a plastic film. The gas-barrier film exhibits excellent gas-barrier properties and can be produced through a simple, convenient process.

Gas-barrier films

The present invention provides a container for retort packaging comprising a laminated film having an outermost layer comprising a layer formed of a cross-linked structure containing ester bonds between poly(meth)acrylic acid (A) and polyalcoholic polymer (B); a resin composition having at least the chemical structures (X) [poly(meth)acrylic acid (A) residue], (Y) [poly(meth)acrylic acid (A)-polyalcoholic polymer (B) residue] and (Z) [metal cross-linked ionic residues], wherein the degree of esterification defined by the equation: degree of esterification=c/(b+c+d) is from 0.01 to 0.5 and the degree of ionization defined by the equation: degree of ionization=c/(b+c+d) is from 0.01 to 0.9 (wherein b, c and d represent the molar ratios of the carbon-oxygen double bond in the chemical structure of the resin composition; and a gas barrier film comprising the same.

Disclosed herein are a polyvinyl alcohol product obtained by heat-treating a melt-molded polyvinyl alcohol product composed of a polyvinyl alcohol composition containing 0.01 to 3.0 mmol of a metal compound based on 1 g of polyvinyl alcohol; a polyvinyl alcohol product obtained by stretching a melt-molded polyvinyl alcohol product composed of a polyvinyl alcohol composition containing 0.01 to 3.0 mmol of a metal compound based on 1 g of polyvinyl alcohol; and a multi-layer product comprising at least one inner layer of a melt-molded product composed of a polyvinyl alcohol composition containing 0.01 to 3.0 mmol of a metal compound based on 1 g of polyvinyl alcohol.

Food packaging-use formed articles including at least one layer of a 3 to 90 microns thickness which comprises a composition consisting of polyvinyl alcohol resin having a degree of saponification of 60 to 95 mole % (A) and a compound elected from a group of alkylene glycol polymer, etc. falling within the range of from 3 weight parts of (B) to 100 weight parts of (A) to the saturated solubility of (B) in (A) and having a carbon dioxide/oxygen solubility ratio (SCO.sub.2 /SO.sub.2) of 30 or higher. A biaxially stretched heat-shrinkable laminated film is disclosed which possesses good heat-shrinkability, excellent melt hole resistance and heat-resistant sealing property (the heat resistance of a seal portion), and highly satisfactory cold resistance, retains transparency even after shrinkage, and serves advantageously as a wrap for packaging foodstuffs. The laminated film is provided as an oxygen barrier layer with a layer of a mixture of vinylidene chloride resin and a low melting point polyamide resin having a crystalline melting point of not higher than 210.degree. C. This mixed resin has been cross-linked by applying the electron beam to the laminate in a dosage in the range of 1 to 12 megarads. The laminated film exhibits a heat shrinkage percentage of not less than 15% at 90.degree. C. and excels in gas barrier property.

Disclosed herein is a smoked food-package produced by packaging a foodstuff with a smokable packaging material and smoking the packaged foodstuff wherein the smokable packaging material comprises at least one layer of a mixture of 5 to 60% by weight of vinylidene chloride resin and 95 to 40% by weight of polyamide, said smokable packaging material having a practical smokability, high oxygen barrier property and high water vapor barrier property, and a smoking process.

Smoked food-package and smoking process

Disclosed herein are a resin composition comprising 5 to 95% by weight of a vinylidene chloride resin and 5 to 95% by weight of a polyamide resin having a low crystalline melting point of not higher than 210.degree. C. and a molded product of said resin composition. The molded product of the present invention shows a molded product excellent in gas-barrier property and impact strength at low temperature, particularly a film, sheet or container. Among the resin compositions of the present invention, since the composition having 60 to 95% by weight of vinylidene chloride resin is particularly rich in gas-barrier property, it is suitable for packaging foods, and since the composition having more than 40% by weight and not more than 95% by weight of polyamide resin is excellent particularly in impact strength at low temperature, it is suitable as the packaging material for use at an extremely low temperature. Moreover, the gas-barrier property and the transparency of the latter molded product which is rich in polyamide resin can be improved by stretching the product so that the dispersed particle of vinylidene chloride resin is made to be flat.
