Valve drive mechanism for engine

An air feeding system for a vehicle engine equipped with a supercharger comprises an inlet passage provided in an engine room with its first section interconnecting an air cleaner and a throttle valve, its second section interconnecting the throttle valve and the supercharger, and its third section interconnecting the supercharger and an engine body of the vehicle engine for feeding a cylinder in the engine body with intake air introduced through the air cleaner into the first section. The air cleaner is disposed at a front portion of one side half of the engine room and the supercharge is disposed in the other side half of the engine room. A part of the inlet passage including the first and second series is arranged to extend backward from the air cleaner and then to extend further along a dash panel forming a rear end of the engine room from one side half to the other side half of the engine room so as to reach temperature.

Air feeding system for a vehicle engine equipped with a supercharger

A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders which do not fire one after another and intake ports for the cylinders. A mechanical supercharger is disposed in an intake passage. An intake resonance passage having no enlarged volume space or chambers, which consists of a resonance passage part and a collecting passage part directly communicating with the resonance passage part, is connected to an outlet port of an intercooler forming a pressure reflecting portion. The intake ports for the cylinders are separately communicated with the collecting passage part by way of a plurality of independent intake passages. A bypass passage is connected between the collecting passage part and the intake passage downstream the mechanical supercharger so as to form a circular passage running the mechanical supercharger, intercooler, intake resonance passage.

Intake system for multi-cylinder engine with supercharger

An intake system is incorporated in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders. The intake system includes an intake manifold having a plurality of discrete intake passages connected to the plurality of cylinders, respectively, and two intake pipes, each intake pipe being arranged in such a way as to descend substantially vertically downwardly from a communicating portion where the intake pipe communicates with each of two groups of the intake passages, turns to extend horizontally in one longitudinal direction of the engine body and then turns back to extend in the opposite longitudinal direction of the engine body surrounding the discrete intake passages. The two groups of the discrete intake passages are connected to two groups of the cylinders which in each and the same group are not intended to be fired one after another.

Intake system for multi-cylinder engine

An air intake device of an engine has intake pipes connected to each of the engine cylinders divided into first and second groups to prevent the continuance of the intake strokes of adjacent cylinders. A first connecting cavity connected to the first group of cylinders and a second connecting cavity connected to the second group of cylinders are arranged in parallel with each other, for effecting supercharging by utilizing the dynamic effect of intake air into each cylinder. A first communicating passage is connected at one end to a longitudinal end of the first connecting cavity and at the other end to a longitudinal end of the second connecting cavity. A second communicating passage arranged on the same side as the first communicating passage is connected at one end to a side of the first connecting cavity and at the other end to a side of the second collecting cavity. The effective passage length of the first communicating passage is shorter than that of the second communicating passage.

Air intake device of engine

A starter-alternator of a vehicle of the type being disposed between a vehicle engine and a transmission case having a field pole member coupled to an engine crankshaft of the vehicle engine. Crow-poles are interspaced to form alternating N and S poles. A field winding is stationarily placed radially inside the crow-poles. A three phase stator winding is stationarily placed to surround the crow-poles, and a housing accommodates the stator-alternator elements therein and connects the vehicle engine and the transmission case. The housing is provided with an air passage for introducing fresh air into the housing so as to blow it toward the three phase stator winding in order to cool it, and an air outlet pipe discharges air inside the housing. In association with either one or both of the windings, a water pipe in communication with a water jacket of the vehicle engine is provided to circulate cold water therethrough.

Starter-alternator for a vehicle engine

Engine valve driving apparatus including a camshaft rotatable with a crankshaft of the engine with a movable cam member supported in sliding fit by the camshaft for axial movement but prevented from any rotation relative to the camshaft. An engine valve is driven by the movable cam member, and a hydraulic system axially shifts the movable cam member between an operative position where the movable cam member is brought into cooperation with the engine valve and an inoperative position where the movable cam member is completely out of cooperation with the engine valve. The hydraulic system causes the shifting movement of the movable cam member according to engine operating conditions so that the engine valve is driven at different speeds or different timings.

Engine valve driving apparatus

An internal combustion engine is provided with a fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve is actuated so that fuel injected therefrom reaches the combustion chamber in the latter half of the intake stroke, thereby accomplishing stratified charge. The timing at which blow-back of intake gas occurs is detected and the timing for terminating fuel injection is advanced as the timing at which blow-back of intake gas occurs becomes earlier.

Fuel injection system for internal combustion engine

An engine intake system including a main intake passage leading through an intake port to a combustion chamber, an auxiliary intake passage branched from the main intake passage and opened to the intake passage, and a control valve provided in the main intake passage and adapted to be opened under a heavy load engine operation and closed under a light load engine operation. A fuel injection valve is provided in the auxiliary intake passage close to the opening of the intake port to the combustion chamber to inject fuel toward the combustion chamber.

Intake system for an internal combustion engine

An engine control system comprises an accelerator position sensor for detecting the amount of depression of the accelerator, a target intake air amount determining circuit which receives the output of the accelerator position sensor and determines a target intake air amount, a target fuel feed amount determining circuit which receives the output of the accelerator position sensor and determines a target fuel feed amount, a throttle valve driver which receives the output of the target intake air amount determining circuit and controls the throttle valve to obtain a target throttle valve opening degree corresponding to the target intake air amount, and a fuel feed control circuit which receives the output of the target fuel feed amount determining circuit and controls the amount of fuel to be fed to the engine to the target fuel feed amount.

Engine control system

In a four-valve engine having a pair of intake ports and a pair of exhaust ports, the hole for inserting the spark plug or the fuel injection nozzle is obliquely formed between the exhaust ports so that one end of the hole opens in the lower surface of the cylinder head at the center of the combustion chamber and the other end of the hole opens between the spring seat portions for the exhaust valve springs and the opening of the exhaust ports in the side face of the cylinder head.

Internal combustion engine

The air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to an internal combustion engine is determined on the basis of a smoothed amount of intake air and a smoothed throttle opening. The smoothed amount of intake air is reflected by a predetermined ratio of a former amount of intake air to the newest amount of intake air. The smoothed throttle opening is reflected by a ratio of a former throttle opening to the newest throttle opening substantially identical to said predetermined ratio.

Air-fuel ratio control apparatus for engines

An intake system for an internal combustion engine comprises a first valve provided to open and close an intake passage leading to each combustion chamber, a bypass passage for introducing intake air into each combustion chamber bypassing the first valve, and a second valve provided to open and close each of the bypass passages. The first valves are operated to close the respective intake passages in a light load range and to open the same in a heavy load range. The second valve is operated to close the bypass passage in the middle of each intake stroke. The first valves are controlled so that the opening of the intake passages is increased as the engine load increases after exceeding a predetermined value, and the second valve is controlled to delay the time the bypass passage is closed with increase in the engine load so that the time the bypass passage is opened overlaps with the time the intake valve is opened when the engine load reaches the predetermined value.

Intake system for internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine with single overhead camshaft which comprises a cylinder block having at least one cylinder bore and accommodating therein a piston, and a cylinder head having a bottom wall flattened at a surface area confronting a combustion chamber, and firmly mounted on the cylinder block. The bottom wall has a pair of intake ports and a pair of exhaust ports which are selectively closed and opened by separate intake valves, one for each intake port, and separate exhaust valves, one for each exhaust port. The intake and exhaust valves are supported by the cylinder head for movement in a direction generally perpendicular to the planar surface of the bottom wall. A single overhead camshaft extends above and between the intake valves and the exhaust valves transversely of the longitudinal axis of the cylinder bore, and has first and second cam means. The piston has a flat top end face confronting, and generally in parallel relationship with, the planar surface of the bottom wall of the cylinder head and has a cavity defined in said flat top end face. The cylinder head also has a socket defined therein so as to extend completely through the thickness of the bottom wall for the support of either an ignition plug or a fuel injector nozzle.
