The invention provides an image forming method and apparatus capable of forming an image with a desired shape at a correct position on a recording medium having expansion and contraction properties. Boundary lines formed on the recording medium being conveyed are detected by a sensor. Distortion of the recording medium is evaluated on the basis of the detected boundary lines. Image data is corrected in accordance with the result of the evaluation and an image is formed in accordance with the corrected image data. In the above process, image data within the respective areas surrounded by the boundary lines is deformed such that the image is printed at a correct location even when the recording medium has distortion due to expansion/contraction.

Method and apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium with contraction and expansion properties

A printing apparatus and a print control method which detect a defective printing element in operation failure status while reciprocate-scanning a printhead, and perform appropriate print control such as complementary printing on an unprinted portion by the defective printing element, without reducing the printing speed. An apparatus, to which the method is applied, has a photosensor to detect ink discharge statuses of a plurality of nozzles of a printhead which is provided between a home position of the printhead and the outside of an effective printing area where image printing is to be made. While the printhead is scanned, test ink discharge is performed at the position of the photosensor and the ink discharge statuses of the nozzles are detected by the photosensor A corrector analyzes the operation statuses of the nozzles of the printhead based on the results of detection in a real time manner. A CPU performs print control based on the results of analysis.

A printing method which can complement an image defect caused by ejection failure and thus to obtain high definition image even when failure, such as faulty ejection or non-ejection failure, is caused in any of ejection mechanism as a plurality of printing elements of a printing head. The printing method includes step of detecting faulty nozzle of the printing head, step of performing printing excluding the faulty nozzle during primary scanning, step subsequently of providing a shift for the printing head in an auxiliary scanning direction at least a pitch between the nozzles, step of performing complemental printing with other normal nozzle for a printing region corresponding to the faulty nozzle which could not be printed in the printing step, and step of eliminating shift of the printing head in the auxiliary scanning direction.

An ink jet textile printing method forms an image on cloths in an image forming operation by repeating a step of applying ink on the cloths from an ink discharge port of a recording head, the recording head relatively main-scanning to form the image in a main scan direction, and a step of relatively conveying the cloths in a sub-scan direction. The method includes the steps of forming the image on the cloths by applying ink on the cloths from the recording head based on image data. The method further includes the step of temporarily stopping the image forming operation in accordance with an indication to effect a temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the temporary halt is indicated while the recording head performs a main scan in the image forming operation, the image forming operation by the main scan is completed, and then the temporary halt of the image forming operation is effected by moving the recording head to a standby position. The method still further includes the step of releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation and restarting the image forming operation in accordance with an indication for releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the release of the temporary halt is indicated, ink is discharged from the ink discharge port and then the image forming operation is restarted.

An ink jet printing apparatus has a station for dyeing a thread for embroidering by discharging ink onto the thread from an ink jet head. According to one aspect of the invention, a printing controller controls the amount of ink discharged per unit time onto the thread according to the speed of relative movement of the thread and the ink jet head. A predetermined pattern is printed on a recording sheet,for monitoring by using a recording head, and read by a reading device,so that abnormal recording elements are detected. A recording apparatus is to perform complementary recording in order to eliminate the white streak caused by recording elements becoming incapable of recording while recording an image. Particularly, in an ink jet recording method for recording an image by discharging ink from nozzles, the white streak caused by nozzles becoming incapable of discharging ink can be eliminated by the performance of a complementary, recording in accordance with the present invention. Preceding printing, abnormal nozzles are detected, and then, data related to such abnormal nozzles are removed. In accordance with such data, one scan printing is performed. Preceding the returning operation of the printing head subsequent to the one scan, a sub-scanning feed is performed so that normal nozzles are positioned in a location corresponding to the white streak appearing in the one scan printing. In this way, while returning the printing head, the printing is performed in accordance with such data related to the abnormal nozzles detected at the time of one scan, hence executing a complementary recording appropriately.
