A printing apparatus includes a transport roller that transports the recording paper from a paper roll in a transport direction, a print head that ejects ink onto the recording paper, an ink supply portion that supplies the ink to the print head, a cutting mechanism that is provided downstream of the print head in the transport direction of the recording paper and that cuts the recording paper, and a control portion that controls the transport of the recording paper in a direction opposite to the transport direction in such a manner that, after the recording paper is cut, a leading end portion of the recording paper reaches a position of the print head from a position of the cutting mechanism, wherein the ink supply portion extends from a region downstream of the print head in the transport direction of the recording paper and is coupled to the print head.

The moving mechanism of a sheet feeding device has a first moving member and a second moving member. The first moving member is held in a position corresponding to the number of sheets supported by a sheet support member, and when moving in a specific direction can move the sheet support member in the separation direction away from a paper feed roller. The second moving member moves out and back through a specific range of movement in each revolution of the paper feed roller, engages the first moving member and moves the first moving member in the specific direction when moving out, and releases said engagement when moving back.

The retard rollerand tension springare removably installable to the unit installation partas a unit. Replacing the retard rolleris therefore simple.

To easily replace a retard roller (that is a media separation roller) while minimizing the required installation space, a printerhas a first media conveyance paththat conveys sheet media; a second media conveyance paththat conveys media and can open and close; a media conveyance rollerand a retard rollerdisposed opposite each other with the first media conveyance paththerebetween; and a roller installation unitto which the retard rolleris installed removably from the second media conveyance pathside. The retard rollercan be easily replaced from the open second media conveyance path. Compared with a configuration having a dedicated opening, a smaller opening and space for replacing the media separation roller are required.
