Disclosed is a fuel filler port device that is of a fuel tank for a straddled vehicle and that can utilize the upper space of the fuel tank without leading to an increase in size of a fuel filler guide tube. The fuel filler port device () of a fuel tank for a straddled vehicle is provided with: a fuel filler guide tube () that extends from the fuel filler port () provided to the upper wall of the fuel tank () to the interior of the fuel tank (), and a flame arrester () that is disposed at the bottom of the fuel filler guide tube (); and the flame arrester () is provided in a manner allowing a nozzle (N) of a fuel gun inserted from the fuel filler port () to be inserted lower than the upper end of the flame arrester ().

A vehicle number plate that allows a steering damper to be disposed without impairing the functions of the number plate, and is less susceptible to an effect of cross wind. The vehicle includes a front fork, which suspends a front wheel, disposed steerably on a head pipe on a vehicle body and a steering mechanism including a handlebar mounted on the front fork. The number plate is marked with a competition identification number and is disposed at a front portion of a fork bridge including a top bridge and a bottom bridge to connect left- and right-hand portions of the front fork. In the vehicle, the steering damper is disposed between the head pipe and the bottom bridge. The number plate includes a protruded portion that protrudes forwardly at a center thereof and narrows toward a lower portion, the lower portion covering an area forward of the steering damper.

A system for detecting an angle of inclination of a vehicle, comprises: a first detecting mechanism which continuously detects an angle of inclination of the vehicle with respect to a direction of the force of gravity; a second detecting mechanism which continuously detects an amount of change in angle of inclination of the vehicle by integrating a sensed angular speed of the vehicle; and a calculator which calculates an angle of inclination of the vehicle based on the sum of a first output from said first detecting mechanism and a second output from said second detecting mechanism.

A process for determining lateral overturning of a vehicle involves establishing a threshold value line S separating a lateral overturning region farther from an origin and a lateral non-overturning region closer to the origin on a two-dimensional map made using a rolling angle &thgr; and a rolling angular speed &ohgr; of the vehicle. When a hysteresis line for actual rolling angles and actual rolling angular speeds of the vehicle traverses the threshold value line from the lateral non-overturning region to the lateral overturning region, it is determined that there is a possibility of lateral overturning of the vehicle, and correspondingly an occupant protecting system may be deployed. Also, to assure accuracy, a lateral acceleration sensor for detecting a lateral acceleration for establishing the threshold value line S is disposed on a center plane of a vehicle body.

A process for determining lateral overturning of a vehicle in which a threshold value line is established separating a lateral overturning region farther from an origin and a lateral non-overturning region closer to the origin on a two-dimensional map made using a rolling angle &thgr; and a rolling angular speed &ohgr; of the vehicle as parameters. When a hysteresis line for actual rolling angles and actual rolling angular speeds of the vehicle traverses the threshold value line from the lateral non-overturning region to the lateral overturning region, it is determined that there is a possibility of lateral overturning of the vehicle. When the rolling angular speed &ohgr; of the vehicle is increased sharply after the rolling angle &thgr; has reached a fully bumping rolling angle &thgr;FB while the rolling angular speed &ohgr; was decreased, it is determined that the vehicle is in a state in which the lateral overturning due to a rolling resonance phenomenon is liable to occur, whereby the threshold value line S is moved toward the origin.

Process for determining lateral overturning of vehicle

An air bag, formed by sewing two basic fabrics at a sewing portion, is accommodated within a module case in a state in which the air bag has been fixed to a holder of an inflater at rear-side base portions and folded up into a bellows-like shape at a front-side foldable portions. The base portion of the left basic fabric, which is remote from a center pillar and a front door of a vehicle, has a section between two points b and c, which defines a surplus section. When the foldable portions of the air bag are expanded, the foldable portions can be moved toward an inner surface of a side of the vehicle body by the surplus section b and c and hence, the air bag can be deployed obliquely forwardly to reliably penetrate into a space between the center pillar, as well as the front door, and an occupant.

A process for determining the lateral overturning of a vehicle, comprises the steps of: establishing a threshold value line on a two-dimensional map made using a rolling angle and a rolling angular speed of the vehicle as parameters; plotting a hysteresis line for an actual rolling angle and an actual rolling angular speed on the two-dimensional map; and determining that there is a possibility that the vehicle is overturning laterally or sideways when the hysteresis line traverses the threshold value line from a side nearer to an origin of the map to a side farther from the origin. The threshold value line is changed depending on at least one of a lateral acceleration of the vehicle, a lateral speed of the vehicle, a direction of change in steering angle of the vehicle, and a rolling angular acceleration of the vehicle.
