A first processing circuit determines a collision of a vehicle based on an output from a sensor for detecting a collision of the vehicle. A second processing circuit outputs a signal to deploy an airbag based on an output from the first processing circuit. A communication unit controls information communication between the first processing circuit and an electronic control unit outside the airbag system. A first power supply unit generates a first driving voltage for driving the first and second processing circuits based on a voltage of an outside power supply. The first power supply unit includes backup power supply unit that supplies a backup voltage when the voltage of the outside power supply falls. A second power supply unit supplies a second driving voltage to the communication unit based on an output of the first power supply unit. A power supply control unit stops the supply of the second driving voltage from the second power supply unit to the communication unit on detection of a fall in the voltage of the outside power supply.

Airbag system

To prevent short-time energization of an air bag due to a bit error occurring in a safing ON/OFF command, the invention provides an air bag control apparatus comprising a first electronic circuit () for generating a firing command based on an output of a main acceleration sensor (), a second electronic circuit () for generating a safing ON command for clearing a safing state, based on an output of a safing acceleration sensor (), and a firing circuit () for generating an air bag inflation permit signal when the firing command and the safing ON command are both input, wherein the second electronic circuit () generates a safing OFF command separately from the safing ON command, and sets the safing state by the safing OFF command.

Air bag control apparatus

To achieve an air bag system in which a safing determination processing circuit can be implemented on one integrated circuit, the air bag system, which is equipped with first and second sensors () for detecting a vehicle crash, and which outputs a signal for expanding an air bag when it is determined that a vehicle crash has occurred based on the outputs of the first and second sensors, comprises: a processing unit () for processing an output signal of the first sensor () by software; and a processing circuit () for processing an output signal of the second sensor () by hardware, wherein the processing unit () includes a non-activation fault diagnosis section () which, based on the output signal of the second sensor (), detects a failure that can lead to non-activation of the air bag, and the processing circuit () includes an erroneous-activation fault diagnosis section () which, based on the output signal of the second sensor (), detects a failure that can lead to erroneous activation of the air bag.

Air bag system

To achieve an air bag activation device that does not require the use of a mechanical safing sensor, the air bag activation device of the invention comprises: a first sensor for electronically detecting acceleration; second and third sensors, mounted at right and left front ends of a vehicle, for electronically detecting acceleration; a squib driver inserted between a power supply and a squib; a microcomputer for generating from outputs of the first, second, and third sensors a driving signal for driving the squib driver; safing signal generating means for generating a safing signal from the outputs of the second and third sensors; and an AND gate for receiving the driving signal and the safing signal as inputs, and for producing an output which is supplied to the squib driver.
