An apparatus and method for producing expanded mesh sheets provides for forming fine slits in a metal sheet at a slit section by plate cutters, but excluding portions in a center and both sides in a widthwise direction of the metal sheet. The areas where the slits have been formed are drawn out at an expanding section thereby opening the slits and obtaining a mesh sheet which has solid portions in the central portion and on both sides. The mesh sheet is flattened at a rolling device to obtain the expanded mesh sheet. An electrode sheet is prepared by applying an active material onto mesh portions of the expanded mesh sheet, and collectors for a battery are cut out from the electrode sheet such that lead connecting portions thereof are located at the solid portion of the mesh sheet where there are no openings.

A method for manufacturing an expanded mesh sheet, includes the steps of: forming a plurality of slits on a strip at predetermined pitches to simultaneously form a plurality of strip-shaped lift portions and connecting portions for connecting the strip-shaped lift portions to each other in a lattice pattern, the slits each being intermittently formed in a longitudinal direction of the strip and the adjacent slits in a widthwise direction of the strip being shifted to each other in the longitudinal direction of the strip; and expanding the strip in the widthwise direction thereof. An apparatus for manufacturing the sheet, includes: a pair of rolls engaged to each other, each roll having a plurality of disk-shaped cutters; and a driving device for driving the rolls for rotation. Each cutter has a cutting edge portion and a relief on a periphery thereof at predetermined pitches to form slits, each of which extends in a longitudinal direction of the strip, on the strip by the cutting edge portions of the cutters of the rolls to form strip-shaped lift portions and to form a connecting portion for connecting the strip-shaped lift portions to each other on a position between the slits on an extending direction of the slits by the reliefs of the cutters of the rolls.

A method for manufacturing an expanded mesh sheet, includes the steps of: forming a plurality of slits on a strip at predetermined pitches to simultaneously form a plurality of strip-shaped lift portions and connecting portions connecting the strip-shaped lift portions to each other in a lattice pattern, the slits each being intermittently formed in a longitudinal direction of the strip and the intermittent pattern of adjacent slits in a widthwise direction of the strip being offset from each other in the longitudinal direction of the strip; and expanding the strip in the widthwise direction thereof. An apparatus for manufacturing the sheet, includes: a pair of rolls in coacting meshing engagement with each other, each roll having a plurality of disk-shaped cutters; and a driving device for rotating the rolls. Each cutter has cutting edge portions and reliefs on a periphery thereof at predetermined pitches. The cutting edge portions of the cutters of the rolls form slits defining strip-shaped lift portions while the reliefs leave the connecting portions connecting the strip-shaped lift portions to each other.

Apparatus for manufacturing expanded mesh sheet

The substrate of a gallium nitride light-emitting diode is made rough at given positions on the surface thereof, or an insulating film strip pattern is attached on the surface of the substrate prior to growing an n-type conductive gallium nitride layer and a semi-insulating gallium nitride layer thereon. As a result, high conductivity regions are formed in the semi-insulating layer at positions corresponding to the rough surfaces or the insulating film strip pattern in such a manner that each of the high conductivity region extends from the n-type conductive layer to the upper surface of the semi-insulating layer so as to function as a conductor to be connected to an electrode. A light-emitting semiconductor device of the type having a substrate, a first layer of a semiconductor on the substrate and a second layer of a different conductivity on the first layer. The second layer is selectively voided so as to give a recess and leave the first layer uncovered in a region serving as the bottom of the recess. An ohmic electrode layer is selectively formed on the second layer so as to extend into the recess and contact with the uncovered region of the first layer, and another ohmic electrode layer is selectively formed on the second layer so as to be separated from the former electrode layer. A solder bump is built up on the first electrode layer to fill up the recess and another solder bump on the second electrode layer so as to be separated from the former solder bump. Selective voiding of the second layer is accomplished by initially covering the entire area of the first layer with the second layer and then selectively slotting the second layer to a depth greater than the thickness of the second layer.
