A catalytic device that can increase the durability of a catalyst support with holes is provided. A flat plate and a corrugated plate have a plurality of holes, a joint area between the flat plate and the corrugated plate is provided in a first upstream area including one end of a catalyst support, and a joint area between the catalyst support and an outer cylinder is provided in a second upstream area that includes the first upstream area and is wider than the first upstream area in the direction of an axis.

Catalytic device

Provided is a catalyst device that makes it possible to efficiently purify exhaust gas. A catalyst device that comprises: a carrier that is formed by stacking and rolling a metal-foil-shaped flat plate and a metal-foil-shaped corrugated plate and that carries a catalyst; and an outer cylinder that houses the carrier and supports the carrier such that one end part of the carrier is oriented toward an exhaust gas upstream side and another end part of the carrier is oriented toward an exhaust gas downstream side. The flat plate and the corrugated plate have a plurality of holes and are covered by a coating film that includes a catalyst substance. The coating film that covers the downstream side of the holes is thicker than the coating film that covers the upstream side of the holes.

Catalyst device

Provided is a catalyst device that can equalize the strength of a carrier in the direction of the flow of exhaust gas. According to the present invention, a flat plate and a corrugated plate have a plurality of holes. When the flat plate and the corrugated plate are in a flat state before being made into a carrier, the plurality of holes form: a plurality of first rows that run along a first direction that is parallel to the axial direction of the carrier; and a plurality of second rows that run along a second direction that is orthogonal to the first direction. As seen from the second direction, the holes in one second row and the holes in the other second row of adjacent second rows have portions that overlap each other.

To reduce an OSC material, while maintaining necessary OSC capacity; and to improve heat resistance and reactivity of a precious metal. Proposed is an exhaust gas purifying catalyst which comprises a first catalyst layer that is formed on the surface of a substrate that is formed of a ceramic or a metal, and a second catalyst layer that is formed on the upper side of the first catalyst layer. The first catalyst layer comprises a precious metal, an OSC material and an alumina, and the OSC material and the alumina are comprised at a mass ratio of OSC material:alumina=1:7 to 1:3. The second catalyst layer comprises a precious metal, an OSC material and an alumina, and the OSC material and the alumina are comprised at a mass ratio of OSC material:alumina=1:1 to 10:0.

Exhaust gas purifying catalyst

Provided is a novel palladium catalyst capable of efficiently purifying carbon monoxide (CO) and total hydrocarbons (THC) under a fuel-rich atmosphere even when palladium (Pd) is used as a catalyst active component. Proposed is a palladium monolayer catalyst for an exhaust gas from a saddle-riding-type vehicle, which is an exhaust gas purification catalyst for a saddle-riding-type vehicle to be installed in an exhaust gas passage in an internal combustion engine. The palladium monolayer catalyst includes a substrate, and a catalyst layer that has the form of a monolayer and contains palladium acting as a catalyst active component, an inorganic porous body acting as a catalyst carrier, ceria (CeO) particles acting as a promoter component, and barium.

Catalyst device for exhaust gas

A metal honeycomb structure includes planar and corrugated sheets brazed together at first and second joining portions made of brazing materials applied to the corrugated sheet. The first and second joining portions are located proximate exhaust inlet and outlet of the honeycomb structure. The honeycomb further includes a joining strip joined to a metal outer tube. The joining strip is made of a brazing material applied to an inner wall of the metal outer tube. The second joining portion overlaps the joining strip and has a brazing length larger than a brazing length of the first joining portion which does not overlap the joining strip.

The base metal catalyst composition is effective to promote a steam reforming reaction of hydrocarbons and a water gas shift reaction to provide Has a reductant to abate NOx.

To provide a valve spring retainer made of titanium, capable of reduction in raw material cost and processing cost, a valve spring retainer is formed out of a titanium alloy raw material composed of 0.8 wt %&#x2266;Fe&#x2266;1.2 wt %, 0.24 wt %&#x2266;O&#x2266;0.32 wt %, 0.02 wt %&#x2266;N&#x2266;0.05 wt %, and balance Ti containing unavoidable impurities through cold forging.

Valve spring retainer made of titanium

A lightweight and high-strength valve lifter is excellent in wear resistance and sliding properties. The valve lifter is made of a titanium alloy having a hardened layer on the top surface thereof, on which a cam is caused to slide. The hardened layer is composed of an &#x3b1;-case and an oxygen diffusion layer under the &#x3b1;-case. The &#x3b1;-caseis formed in a thickness of not less than 3 &#x3bc;m and not more than 15 &#x3bc;m. The oxygen diffusion layer has a thickness of not less than 10 &#x3bc;m. The hardened layer on the top surface of the valve lifter is formed by oxidation treatment in a furnace at a temperature of not less than 600&#xb0; C. An outermost oxide layerformed on the &#x3b1;-case as a result of the oxidation treatment is removed.

Titanium alloy valve lifter

A valve lifter and a method of manufacture thereof is provided in which sliding properties of a cam on a cam-contacting sliding surface in an upper surface of a valve lifter are improved by forming the cam-contacting sliding surface as a concave surface to permit retention of lubricating oil therein. The cam-contacting sliding surface is integrally provided in an outer wall of an upper part of a valve lifter. The cam-contacting sliding surface is formed as a concave surface to provide better retention of the lubricating oil. The concave sliding surface is formed during high temperature oxidation of the valve lifter by permitting the natural slumping down of the upper part due to its own weight under the gravity.

In a drive system, there is provided a waste heat recovering device forming a Rankine cycle by an evaporator for heating water with waste heat of an internal combustion engine to generate high-pressure vapor, the internal combustion engine being connected to a transmission, a displacement-type expander for converting high-pressure vapor generated by the evaporator to an output with constant torque, a condenser for liquefying low-pressure vapor discharged from the expander, and a feed pump for supplying water liquefied by the condenser to the evaporator. The expander is connected to a power generator/motor via a planetary gear mechanism, and the expander is connected to an output shaft of the internal combustion engine via the planetary gear mechanism and a belt-type continuously variable transmission. A change gear ratio of the belt-type continuously variable transmission is controlled such that a rotational speed of the internal combustion engine and a rotational speed of the expander are matched with each other and are transmitted to the transmission. Hence, it is possible to effectively drive the driven portion by using the output of the expander of the waste heat recovering device.
