A solid electrolyte glass at least including: at least one alkali metal element; a phosphorus (P) element; a sulfur (S) element; and one or more halogen elements selected from I, Cl, Br and F; wherein the solid electrolyte glass has two exothermic peaks that are separated from each other in a temperature range of 150&#xb0; C. to 350&#xb0; C. as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (in a dry nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature-elevating speed of 10&#xb0; C./min from 20 to 600&#xb0; C.).

The present invention provides an optical semiconductor sealing material comprising a radically polymerized polymer of a methacrylate ester having an alicyclic hydrocarbon group containing 7 or more carbon atoms, e.g. an adamantyl group, a norbornyl group, or a dicyclopentanyl group; and an optical semiconductor sealing material comprising a radically polymerized polymer of 50 to 97 mass % of the methacrylate ester and 3 to 50 mass % of acrylate ester having a hydroxyl group. The optical semiconductor sealing material of the present invention is highly transparent and stable to UV light and thus does not undergo yellowing. In addition, the material exhibits excellent compatibility between heat resistance and refractive index, does not undergo deformation or cracking during heating processes such as reflow soldering, and shows high processability. The material can be preferably used as a sealing material for light-emitting elements and light-receiving elements of optical semiconductor devices (semiconductor light-emitting devices).

Optical semiconductor sealing material

A polyether copolymer comprising the repeating units represented by the following general formula (I) ##STR1## and the repeating units represented by the following formula (II) ##STR2## the molar ratio of (I)/{(I)+(II)} being from 0.1 to 0.8 and the polyether copolymer having a melt viscosity of at least 500 poise as measured at 400.degree. C. is produced by allowing a dihalogenobenzonitrile, 1,4-bis(4'-halobenzoyl)benzene, and 4,4'-biphenol to react with each other in an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of an alkali metal compound. The polyether copolymer exhibits excellent heat-resistance, solvent resistance, and mechanical strength, and is suitable as a material for resin compositions, heat-resistant laminates, fiber, and film.
