An outboard motor includes a seal to seal a space between a peripheral edge of a shroud opening and a peripheral edge of a cowl opening. The seal includes a base plate fixed to the peripheral edge of the shroud opening and a rectangular annular seal lip extending from the base plate in elastic contact with the peripheral edge of the cowl opening. The rectangular annular seal lip includes a hollow first seal lip including a first lip portion including a first base end and a first front end, a second lip portion including a second base end and a second front end, and a hollow portion between the first lip portion and the second lip portion. The first lip portion and the second lip portion have a chevron shape in cross-section inclined in mutually opposite directions.

Outboard motor and seal for outboard motor

A drive unit rotates a propeller shaft and is accommodated in a housing. A mount is provided on the housing. A light unit is attached to the mount and includes light sources. A controller is connected to the light unit, and is configured or programmed to turn on the light sources in a lighting pattern depending on an operating state of the outboard motor.

Outboard motor

An outboard motor includes an engine to rotate a propeller and an engine cover that houses the engine. The engine cover includes two divided covers disposed above the engine and that directly face the engine. The two divided covers include two connections that are connected together and that overlap the engine in a plan view.

An outboard motor includes an engine, a fan driven by the engine to discharge air surrounding the engine, and a cowl housing the engine and the fan. The cowl includes a top cowl that is disposed above the engine and includes an exhaust pathway for exhaust to flow from the fan, and an exhaust port connected to the exhaust pathway and located on the top cowl. The exhaust port opens in a forward direction of the outboard motor.

A cowl includes a bottom cowl, a top cowl, and a clamp device. The bottom cowl opens upward. The top cowl opens downward and closes an opening of the bottom cowl. The clamp device detachably couples the top cowl to the bottom cowl. The clamp device includes a clamp and an operating lever that operates the clamp. The clamp is disposed inside the cowl. The operating lever is disposed outside the cowl. A mating portion between the bottom cowl and the top cowl includes a first mating section and a second mating section as seen in a side view of the cowl. The first mating section extends rearward from a front end portion of the cowl. The second mating section extends upward and rearward from a rear end of the first mating section. The operating lever is located above an extension line defined by extending the first mating section rearward as seen in the side view of the cowl.

An outboard motor includes a mount on which an engine is mounted, an engine cover, and a sealing structure. The engine cover is divisible into a top portion, a front bottom portion, and a side bottom portion. A first seal in the sealing structure integrally includes a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion. The first portion seals the boundary between the top portion, the front bottom portion, and the side bottom portion. The second portion seals the boundary between the front bottom portion, the mount, and the side bottom portion. The third portion seals the boundary between the front bottom portion and the side bottom portion.

Outboard motor and sealing structure for divisible engine cover used therefor

In cowling structure for an outboard motor, a through hole is formed below an upper-cowling joining surface of a lower cowling; control cables are supported with a cable supporting groove of a back side plate, and the back side plate is fixed to the through hole; a sealing member that is covered on the outside of the control cables, is fitted into the through hole; a groove of a front side plate is placed around the control cables, and the front side plate is set onto the sealing member; and the sealing member is fixed to the lower cowling by a bolt together with the front side plate. The cowling structure for an outboard motor can prevent water intrusion by removing a notch on an upper-cowling joining surface of a lower cowling.

Cowling structure for outboard motor

In a cable insertion structure for an outboard motor, a pawl section and a supporting section of a resinous cap are inserted from the inside of a cowling into a communicating hole of a rubber grommet, and the pawl section is fitted into a recess. Then, the communicating section of the rubber grommet is sandwiched between the pawl section and the pressing section, and thus the resinous cap is fixed to the rubber grommet. In the above-described state, a cable is inserted from an insertion hole of the resinous cap into a cable housing section of the rubber grommet. A clip band is fastened to a groove of the cable housing section to fix the cable housing section to the cable. The cable insertion structure for an outboard motor prevents a rubber grommet from coming off even when an external force that pulls the cable is applied.

A hook assembly is arranged to engage with an engaged member to fix a first housing to a second housing of an outboard motor. The hook assembly includes a rotation shaft, a hook member, a lever, and a weight. The rotation shaft is rotatably mounted on the first housing. A recessed portion is provided in the hook member. The recessed portion is arranged to open in first rotation direction. The recessed portion engages with the engaged member. The lever extends from the rotation shaft in a second rotation direction opposite to the first rotation direction of the recessed portion. The weight regulates the rotation of the hook member in the second rotation direction when the hook member and the engaged member are engaged together. The arrangement provides a highly-operable hook assembly for the outboard motor that prevents disengagement even when an obstacle collides with the outboard motor during traveling of a boat.

Outboard motor and hook assembly used for outboard motor

A mounting structure for cables for a boat propulsion unit that enables easy insertion of cables into a pass-through hole, as well as highly reliable water-sealing is provided in a bottom cowling of the boat propulsion unit. The cables are inserted in through-holes in a rubber grommet by opening up a slit in the rubber grommet, and then inserting the rubber grommet in a pass-through hole in the port section. The rubber grommet is fit into the pass-through hole in the pressurized condition to water-seal the pass-through hole. The pass-through hole is molded integrally with the bottom cowling. A retaining plate is wrapped around the rubber grommet to prevent the slit from opening up, and the grommet is accommodated in the pass-through hole together with the retainer plate. Then, the retainer plate is fastened to the port section by mounting bolts. Thus, the rubber grommet is fixed within the pass-through hole, and provides water-sealing by filling the gap around the cables within the pass-through hole.

Structure for mounting cables for boat propulsion unit

An outboard motor has a throttle actuator adapted to control an amount of intake air supplied to an engine, and a shift mechanism that controls shift operation between a neutral and at least a forward gear. The throttle actuator includes a member that is adapted to interfere with the shift mechanism so as to prevent shift actuation when the throttle is opened beyond a predetermined setting. As such, shift operation is prevented at high throttle openings, but throttle operation is still enabled.

An outboard motor has a cowl having a top cowl and a bottom cowl that are detachably connected using a clamp apparatus. The clamp apparatus has a clamp engaging member on the top cowl, a clamp fixing member on the bottom cowl, and a clamp for connecting the top and bottom cowls. The clamp has an engaging section for engaging the clamp engaging member, a fixing section fixed on the bottom cowl by the clamp fixing member, a mounting pivot formed on the fixing section, and a supporting pivot linked to the mounting pivot. A line is defined between the engaging section and the mounting pivot. In an open clamp state, the supporting pivot is positioned away from the cowl beyond the line. In a closed clamp state, the supporting pivot is positioned adjacent to the cowl within the line. A biasing spring biases the clamp main body toward the cowl at least in the open clamp state.

Outboard motor cowl structure

A speed increasing gear used in a supercharger has a center roller connected to an output shaft, an outer wheel arranged eccentric to the center roller, and a plurality of intermediate rollers arranged within an annular space in which a width of the center roller with respect to a diametrical direction is uneven with respect to a circumferential direction of the center roller. The annular space is provided between the center roller and the outer wheel, and a pivot of at least one intermediate roller is movably arranged in a circumferential direction and a radial direction of the center roller.
