An information recording and/or reading apparatus has a base plate, a spindle motor for rotating a disk by the output shaft perpendicular to the base plate, a rotary alignment control device for determining the rotation position of a recording/reading head of a head unit about a rotary alignment axis parallel to the output shaft of the spindle motor, a linear movement guide extending parallel to the rotary alignment axis, and a support mechanism for supporting the rotary alignment control device to be reciprocally movable along the linear movement guide. An information recording and/or reading apparatus allows very easy exchange of a recording/reading head and disk, and can avoid troubles such as damage to the recording/reading head and disk during exchange.

A shaft which alternately stacks and holds disks and spacers is rotated by a motor having a rotor and stator. To prevent axial run-out during rotation, when the disks and spacers are fitted on the shaft, clean air is injected from an air pad to prevent eccentricity by a fluid film, and an aligning shaft is pressed against a hub on the upper end of the shaft via an air pad to attain alignment.

A lens actuator has a support shaft, a substantially cylindrical holder member slidably supported by the support shaft and an optical system. The holder member has at least four openings extending in the direction of the center axis of the support shaft. The optical system is held by the holder member so that the optical axis thereof is parallel with the center axis of the support shaft. A coil is mounted on the side of the holder member. An external yoke is provided around the holder member. An internal yoke is divided into the same number of portions to be inserted in the openings as the openings in the holder member. A magnetic field across the coil is generated by a magnet cooperating with the external yoke and the internal yoke. The rigidity of the holder member is enhanced so that the occurrence of resonance can be suppressed at the frequency used in the actuator.

A lens actuator capable of driving a lens smoothly in two-directions and which is small in size and light in weight is disclosed. The lens actuator include a base having a supporting shaft, a lens holder set so as to be rotatable about and slidable along the supporting shaft, a lens retained by the holder so that an optical axis thereof is parallel with the supporting shaft and the lens is mounted on the holder at a position separate from the supporting shaft, a first coil mounted on the holder for generating a force for rotating the holder by flowing a current therein, a second coil mounted on the holder for generating a force for slidably moving the holder along the supporting shaft by flowing a current therein and a magnet mounted on the base for applying a magnet field to the first and second coils. The first coil is mounted on the holder on the side opposed to the lens with the supporting shaft between. The first coil balances the weight of the lens so that the center of gravity of the holder is substantially at the center of rotation thereof.
