An electric compressor includes a rotary shaft, an electric motor, a compression mechanism, and a housing. The electric motor has a stator including a cylindrical stator core and a coil that has a coil end. The housing has a suction port and a main passage through which a fluid is flowed. An introduction hole through which the fluid is introduced into the compression mechanism is disposed opposite from the main passage. The housing has a coil end area in which a coil end of is disposed. The suction port and the introduction hole are connected via the main passage and the coil end area. The housing further has a groove including a first groove portion and a second groove portion having a depth greater than the first groove portion. A cross sectional are of a first passage portion is smaller than a cross sectional area of the main passage.

A motor-driven compressor includes a compression mechanism. The compression mechanism includes a stationary scroll and a movable scroll. The movable scroll and the stationary scroll form a compression chamber. The motor-driven compressor has an electric motor accommodated in a motor chamber, a suction pressure zone, a discharge chamber, and an oil passage, which is connected either to the compression chamber or the discharge chamber. The electric motor includes a rotary shaft and drives the movable scroll via the rotary shaft. A main bearing located in the vicinity of the compression mechanism rotationally supports the rotary shaft. The rotary shaft has an in-shaft passage. The oil passage has a radial passage, which is directly connected to the in-shaft passage, and the in-shaft passage has an outlet, which opens to the motor chamber. The main bearing is exposed in the oil passage. The motor chamber is the suction pressure zone.

A differential pressure regulating valve is disposed in a fluid passage. The differential pressure regulating valve includes a valve chamber, a valve hole, a valve body, a support member and an urging member. The valve chamber is formed in the fluid passage and having a cylindrical shape. The valve hole is formed in the fluid passage as an opening which communicates with the valve chamber. The valve body is disposed in the valve chamber and adapted to open and close the valve hole. The support member is fixedly mounted to the valve chamber and extending across flowing direction of the fluid in the valve chamber. The support member has a communication passage for fluid communication between a first valve chamber and a second valve chamber. The urging member is disposed between the support member and the valve body for urging the valve body toward the valve hole.

With regard to a scroll compressor, a compression portion is rotatably connected with one end portion of a rotating shaft. A first shaft portion formed at one end portion of the rotating shaft is supported through a first bearing by a partition. A second shaft portion formed at the other end portion of the rotating shaft is supported through a second bearing by a cylindrical shaft support. A coil spring is interposed between a second inner race of a second bearing and a spring receiving portion of the rotating shaft which faces the second inner race in the shaft direction of the rotating shaft. The structure reduces vibration toward the shaft length direction of the rotating shaft and minimizes common vibrations together with vehicle side vibrations.

An electric compressor includes a compression mechanism, an electric motor that drives the compression mechanism, a compressor housing that accommodates the electric motor and the compression mechanism, an inverter housing coupled to the compressor housing and including an inverter accommodation chamber that accommodates the inverter, and a sealed terminal arranged in the compressor housing. The sealed terminal electrically connects the inverter and the electric motor. The sealed terminal includes a terminal pin, which is formed from a conductive material, a terminal holder, which holds the terminal pin, and an insulative body, which insulates the terminal pin from the terminal holder. The insulative body includes a first insulative body, which is arranged in the inverter accommodation chamber and formed from a ceramic, and a second insulation body, which is arranged in the compressor housing and formed from glass.

A compressor housing defines a motor accommodating chamber. The pressure in the motor accommodating chamber is equal to the pressure in a suction chamber. A first reservoir chamber is located in a discharge chamber. A second reservoir chamber is defined about the discharge chamber. A communicating passage connects the first reservoir chamber with the second reservoir chamber. A restrictor is located in the communicating passage. An oil return passage connects the second reservoir chamber with the suction chamber. A connecting passage connects the motor accommodating chamber with the suction chamber. Therefore, leakage of electricity is prevented.

A motor accommodating chamber accommodates an electric motor such that a rotation axis of the motor is substantially horizontal. The pressure in the motor accommodating chamber is equal to the pressure in a suction chamber. A connecting passage connects a bottom portion of the motor accommodating chamber with the suction chamber. Therefore, mixture of liquids having a lowered insulating property is prevented from staying in a motor accommodating chamber.

An electric motor includes a housing and a circular stator. The housing has an inner circumferential surface. The housing also has a first predetermined thermal expansion coefficient. The housing further has an elastic part. The stator core is pressed to an inside of the housing by tight fit. The stator core has an outer circumferential surface. The stator core also has a second predetermined thermal expansion coefficient that is different from the first predetermined thermal expansion coefficient. A void is defined between the inner circumferential surface and the outer circumferential surface so as to prevent the inner and the outer circumferential surfaces from contacting each other in a circular region. When the housing and the stator core expand or shrink so as to tightly fit each other due to a differential between the first and second predetermined thermal expansion coefficients, the elastic part corresponding to the void is elastically deformed.

The bottom and side surfaces are defined by the compressor housing. The motor drive circuit is arranged in the accommodating space for driving the electric motor.

A compressor unit has a compressor main body, an electrical circuit device and a connector. The electrical circuit device is electrically connected to the compressor main body through a cable. The cable has a proximal end and a distal end. One of the compressor main body and the electrical circuit device is integrally connected to the cable at the proximal end of the cable, and the other has a terminal thereon. The connector is provided at the distal end of the cable and is detachably connected to the terminal.

A scroll type compressor includes a housing, a fixed scroll member and a movable scroll member. An elastic member is formed in an annular and planar shape and is fixed in the housing on a side of a back surface of the movable base plate so as to slidably contact the back surface of the movable base plate of the movable scroll member at a sliding region of the elastic member. A facing wall is provided on a side opposite to a side of the movable scroll member with respect to the elastic member. A first space is formed between the elastic member and the facing wall for allowing the elastic member to be elastically deformed.
