Provided are a wire electric discharge machine, a correction device, and a correction method which accurately correct position information indicating the position of a supporting point of each of an upper guide and a lower guide. The correction device includes: a storage unit that stores the position information; an inclination control unit that causes a wire electrode to incline at a predetermined angle; a measurement unit that measures a relative movement amount from a state in which the lower guide and a measurement site are separated by a predetermined distance in a relative movement direction to a state in which the wire electrode inclined at the predetermined angle reaches the measurement site; and an information correction unit that corrects the position information of the storage unit on the basis of the predetermined angle and the relative movement amount.

A wire electrical discharge machine for performing electrical discharge machining on a workpiece to be machined by applying voltage to an electrode gap formed between a wire electrode and the workpiece to generate electrical discharge at the electrode gap under predetermined machining conditions while conveying the wire electrode along a transfer path, includes: a wire breakage detector for detecting a breakage of the wire electrode; a position calculator for calculating the breakage position of the wire electrode in the transfer path; and an adjustment unit for adjusting the machining conditions when the breakage position is in a predetermined section of the transfer path.

A primary power supply charges a capacitor by turning on a switching element and, upon completion of charging, turns off the switching element. Then, an AC pulse voltage is applied to the gap between a wire electrode and a workpiece by alternately turning on and off a switching element present in a secondary power supply. After a dielectric breakdown occurs between the wire electrode and the workpiece, the switching element is turned on to connect the capacitor so that the capacitor supplies a pulse current for machining.

A wire electric discharge machine is configured to machine a workpiece by computing an electric current at the machining time before starting a main machining and compensating a power source voltage for machining. The wire electric discharge machine measures an average electric current and an electric discharge frequency at the machining time, in a measuring section in an approach before the main machining, and computes a peak current at the machining time. Further, an electric voltage of a machining power source is compensated by comparing the computed peak current at the machining, with a reference peak current.

Upper and lower wire guides in a wire-cut electric discharge machine are moved until a wire electrode contacts with a workpiece, and after the contact, the upper and lower wire guides are moved backward to a position A which is away from the contact point at a fixed distance. Subsequently, the lower wire guide is moved until the wire electrode contacts with the workpiece and the lower wide guide is returned to the position A. A coordinate value on the position where the wire electrode contacts with the workpiece is calculated by using position detection values which are obtained in the above respective steps, and board thickness is calculated from the coordinate value.
