Provided is a semiconductor device including a package having a hollow portion, which can meet the need of reduction in size and thickness. The semiconductor device includes: a resin molded member () including a hollow portion () having an inner bottom surface on which a semiconductor chip () is mounted, a surrounding portion () that surrounds the hollow portion (), and a bottom surface portion (); an inner lead (); and an outer lead () exposed from the resin molded member (). The inner lead buried in the molded member () includes an L-shaped lead extending portion having a through hole formed therethrough.

Semiconductor device

Phosphate-based glass doped with copper ions having infrared blocking filter characteristics is formed into particles and is mixed with a transparent encapsulating resin to encapsulate a semiconductor element. The glass particles have a particle diameter four times or more as large as a wavelength of infrared radiation to be blocked. An optical semiconductor device can be obtained having a stable filter characteristics thereof even if an incident light angle changes and is resistant to moisture.

Optical semiconductor device

An optical sensor element is mounted in a package which includes a glass substrate having a cavity, and a glass lid substrate bonded to the other substrate to close the cavity. The glass substrate with the cavity has metalized wiring patterns on front and rear surfaces thereof, and a through hole filled with metal to form a through-electrode interconnecting the wiring patterns on the front and rear surfaces. A metalized wiring pattern on the rear surface of the glass lid substrate is electrically connected to the wiring pattern on the front surface of the other substrate with an adhesive containing conductive particles. The glass lid substrate is made either of glass having a filter function or glass having a light shielding property with an opening therethrough filled with glass having a filter function.

Optical sensor device

A low-cost, compact, high-reliability optical sensor device has an optical sensor element mounted in a package comprised of a light shielding glass lid substrate, a part of which has a light filter function, adhered to a light shielding glass substrate having a cavity. In a through hole in the light shielding glass lid substrate, glass having a function of absorbing infrared light and transmitting visible light by its own property is embedded. The light shielding glass substrate is made of glass having light shielding property as its own property.

Optical sensor device having wiring pattern within cavity housing optical sensor element

Provided is a high-reliability, compact, and low-cost optical sensor device. The optical sensor device includes a glass lid substrate (), a glass substrate () with a cavity having divided and exposed through-hole electrodes () on the periphery thereof, and an optical sensor element () mounted on the glass lid substrate, and has a structure in which the glass lid substrate and the glass substrate with a cavity are bonded together. By hermetically sealing with the glass substrates, high reliability is secured. By using the divided through-hole electrodes, the package size is reduced and the number of devices which can be produced in a batch in the manufacture increases, which enables cost reduction.

Optical sensor device and method of manufacturing the same

A lighting device has a glass substrate and a lead frame embedded in the glass substrate. The glass substrate has a front surface, a side surface and a rear surface, the front surface having a recess portion with a bottom surface. The lead frame has a portion exposed on the side surface of the glass substrate and a portion exposed on the bottom surface of the recess portion. A line width of a region of the portion of the lead frame exposed on the bottom surface of the recess portion is narrower than a line width of a region of the portion of the lead frame exposed on the side surface of the glass substrate. A light emitting element is mounted in the recess portion of the glass substrate and is electrically connected with the portion of the lead frame exposed on the bottom surface of the recess portion. A sealing material covers the light emitting element.

Lighting device having light emitting element mounted in glass substrate

A fingerprint reading system is provided, which is capable of enhancing versatility when actually used, increasing productivity and reducing costs. An illumination device emits the light from a rear surface side of an active matrix liquid crystal cell. A light guiding plate provided on a surface side of the active matrix liquid crystal cell, transmits the light coming from the rear surface side and deflects the light coming from the surface side toward one side end surface. A light receiving device provided on the side of one side surface of the light guiding plate receives the light exiting from this one side surface. A drive circuit makes the active matrix liquid crystal cell pinpoint-irradiate a fingerprint in contact with the light guiding plate by pinpointing with the light emitted from the illumination device and makes the light receiving device pinpoint-receive the light reflected by the fingerpoint, thereby obtaining an image of the fingerprint.

Fingerprint reading device and method thereof

A display device having an insulating substrate on which transparent electrodes having display electrode portions and wiring electrodes portions are formed, and another substrate opposed to the insulating substrate. At a portion of the insulating substrate at which the wiring electrode patterns extend across a contour line of the opposing substrate, the wiring electrode patterns are set perpendicular to the end surface of the opposing substrate. Dummy patterns may be provided outside the opposite-end terminal patterns in the group of wiring electrode patterns. In the thus-arranged display device, when the wiring electrodes are plated after assembly of a display element, a short circuit cannot occur on the insulating substrate portion at which the wiring electrode patterns extend across the contour line of the opposing substrate. Pads for contact with a short check probe are arranged in a straight line on the insulating substrate. A low-priced straight probe can therefore be used for a short circuit check.

Display device

A fingerprint reading system is provided with enhanced versatility and reduced cost. The fingerprint reading sensor includes a group of first electrodes arranged in a plurality of lines extending in a first direction, a group of second electrodes arranged in a plurality of lines extending in a second direction intersecting the first direction above the first electrode group through an interlayer insulating film, and a surface protective film formed of a dielectric material provided on the second electrode group. Drive circuits detect electrostatic capacity between each of the electrodes and a finger touching the surface protective film by sequentially applying a predetermined voltage to both groups of electrodes and measuring a change in the electrostatic capacity at each point where a second electrode crosses over a first electrode.

A fingerprint reading device is provided, which is capable of enhancing a versatility when actually used, increasing a productivity and reducing costs. The fingerprint reading device comprises an electrostatic capacity type fingerprint reading sensor provided on a liquid crystal panel, and drive circuits thereof. The fingerprint reading sensor includes detection electrodes arranged in predetermined positions, active elements connected respectively to the detection electrodes, and a protective film provided on the surface thereof.

Fingerprint reading device

A liquid crystal device comprises a liquid crystal cell having a liquid crystal material sandwiched between a pair of substrates, the liquid crystal material having a retardation less than 1 .mu.m, a polymer film comprised of an optically anisotropic substance disposed on one of the substrates opposite the liquid crystal material, a color polarizing plate disposed on the polymer film opposite the one substrate, and a polarizing plate disposed on the other of the substrates opposite the liquid crystal material. The liquid crystal material preferably comprises a super twisted nematic liquid crystal material, and the color polarizing plate preferably comprises a red, green or blue polarizing plate.

Color LCD having particular parameters for LC layer, retarder, color

A liquid crystal display panel comprises first and second substrates each having a transparent electrode and an orientation plane, a nematic liquid crystal material disposed between the first and second substrates, a polarizer disposed over the first substrate and the nematic liquid crystal material, and a simplex polymer film comprised of a single optically anisotropic substance disposed between the first substrate and the polarizer. The nematic liquid crystal material has a positive anisotropy of refractive index, a retardation of 0.55 .mu.m to 1.75 .mu.m, and molecules twisted at a high degree with a twist angle of 180.degree. to 270.degree.. The simplex polymer film has a retardation of 20 nm to 200 nm.

Liquid crystal display panel and display device

A display device includes a liquid crystal panel, a controller, a common driver and a segment driver. The common driver is powered by a high power supply voltage and outputs row driving waveforms having predetermined voltage levels, which are relatively high. The segment driver is powered by a low power supply voltage and outputs column driving waveforms having predetermined voltage levels, which are relatively low. By this construction, it is not necessary for both the segment and common drivers to be high withstand voltage integrated circuit devices.

A display device includes a vertical driver for applying to row electrodes a set of row signals represented by a set of orthogonal functions supplied by an orthogonal function generator at each selection period by group-sequential scanning within one frame. A dot product processor successively carries out a dot product computation between the set of orthogonal functions and a set of pixel data. A horizontal driver applies to column electrodes column signals having voltage levels determined by the results of the dot product computation at each selection period in synchronization with the group-sequential scanning. A frame memory stores the pixel data for each frame in divided bit form. The dot product processor reads out the set of stored pixel data in divided bit form and executes the dot product computation to produce a column signal component for each respective bit. The horizontal driver arranges a plurality of column signal components corresponding to the respective bits subjected to either pulse modulation or frame-rate modulation within one frame period to produce the column signal that is applied to the column electrodes. A memory controller controls the writing of the pixel data into the frame memory. Bit data subjected to the pulse modulation are written to the frame memory for every frame, while bit data subjected to frame-rate modulation are selectively written to the frame memory only at frames specified by the frame-rate modulation.

Gradative driving apparatus of liquid crystal display panel

In order to prevent signal distortion using a multiple line selection driving technique when using pulse width modulation to achieve a half-tone display in a liquid crystal display panel, respective bits of column signals are arranged in a descending pulse width order and a voltage generating circuit is used to lower level differences in adjacent bits. An orthonormal function generating circuit generates a plurality of row signals to drive a group of row electrodes through a vertical driver. A dot product computation circuit computes a dot product of the orthonormal functions and pixel display data to generate a column signal in the above manner. A horizontal driver applies the column signal to a group of column electrodes. Pixel data is stored in a frame memory, each datum being represented by a series of bits corresponding to a gray scale. The dot product computation circuit divides the pixel data into the respective bits, and individually carries out the dot product computation for each bit. The horizontal driver arranges the column signal components in order of descending pulse width. A voltage level circuit lowers the voltage level between the column components to reduce distortion caused by the high switching speed between the components and the low response time of the liquid crystal material.
