A forging method and forging apparatus able to improve a dimensional precision of a forged article and able to reduce the machining processes to a minimum and thereby reduce costs are provided. That is, a forging method placing a workpiece inside of a die, pressing the workpiece by a top part of the die in the axial direction toward the bottom part side of the die, and making the material of the end face of the workpiece flow to form the end face of the workpiece into a recessed/projecting shape, which forging method characterized by using independent pressing and holding means for pressing and holding the workpiece in the axial direction independent for the top part and the bottom part at the time of the press forming.

Forging method and forging apparatus

A block of material used for making a movable core for a fuel injector is prepared from a bar or coil of material by clamp shearing using a working fluid containing an extreme-pressure additive (such as sulfur, chlorine or phosphorus). The additive reacts with the material to form a protective layer (of e.g. sulfide, chloride or phosphate) on the cut-off surface of the block. The block is cold forged so that its cut-off surface having the protective layer may form a wall defining a fuel passage. The layer prevents the material from being seized with any die or punch used for cold forging.

Method of manufacturing a fuel injector core

An aqueous lubrication treatment liquid for a cold plastic working of a metallic material comprises 50 to 400 g/l of a solid lubricant, for example, MoS.sub.2, 1 to 40 g/l of a surfactant, 10 ppm to 5000 ppm, in terms of colloidal titanium compound, water, and optionally, 5 to 150 g/l of a binder and 4 to 160 g/l of a metallic soap. This liquid exhibits a strong bonding to the metallic material and an excellent lubricating property, and prevents rusting of the metallic material.
