To provide a solar cell that reduces occurrence of a defect and has high photoelectric conversion efficiency. The solar cell includes a silicon substrate such as an n-type single-crystal silicon substrate single crystal with pyramid-shaped irregularities P formed thereon, and an amorphous or microcrystal semiconductor layer formed on the single-crystal silicon substrate. A flat part F is formed in a valley portion of the pyramid-shaped irregularities P provided on a surface of the single-crystal silicon substrate. With this configuration, a steep angle of 70&#xb0; to 85&#xb0; of a concave portion formed by a substantially (111) surface can be widened to between 115&#xb0; and 135&#xb0;. Accordingly, a change of atomic step morphology attributable to a rounded shape can be eliminated, thereby enabling to reduce epitaxial growth and defects in the amorphous or microcrystal semiconductor layer.

An organic electro luminescence element includes a substrate, an anode isolating film formed of an insulator on the substrate, an anode conductive layer formed on an upper surface of the substrate in an area partitioned by the anode isolating film, and an element isolating film formed of an insulator to enclose the anode isolating film and to be wider downward. Further, on the upper surface of the anode isolating film, a conductive film of the same type as the anode conductive layer is formed, which conductive layer is also covered by the element isolating film. Preferably, the anode isolating film has its upper surface made larger than the lower surface.

Method of making a liquid crystal display including a field effect

The present invention relates to a field effect transistor (FET element) in which a .pi.-conjugated polymer film serving as a semiconductor layer is manufactured by first forming a .pi.-conjugated polymer precursor film using a .pi.-conjugated precursor which is soluble in a solvent and then changing the precursor polymer film to the .pi.-conjugated polymer film. A liquid crystal display apparatus uses the FET element as an active drive element. A large number of the FET elements can be manufactured on a large area substrate at the same time at lost cost and operate stably. A large current flow between the source and drain can be significantly modulated by a voltage applied to the gate of the FET element.

Field effect transistor including .pi.conjugate polymer and liquid

A field effect transistor has a channel between a source electrode and a drain electrode made from an organic semiconductor. In one form of the invention, the channel is a mixture of at least two different organic compounds. In another form of the invention, the channel is a lamination of at least two films of different organic compounds. The channel can also be a .pi.-conjugated block copolymer of at least two different types of monomers.
