A battery capable of improving the energy density and improving the battery characteristics such as cycle characteristics and high temperature storage characteristics. A cathode and an anode are oppositely arranged with a separator in between. The open circuit voltage in full charge is in the range from 4.25 V to 6.00 V. The separator has a base material layer and a surface layer. The surface layer opposed to the cathode is formed from at least one from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, and aramid.

Battery

A battery pack includes a battery including a battery element covered with a packaging member, a battery protection circuit board, a covering material, and a rippable portion formed in a part of the covering material. The battery element includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode which are spirally wound or stacked through a separator. The covering material collectively covers the battery and the battery protection circuit board. The rippable portion rips open due to a gas generated from the battery in the event of an abnormal condition to form a gas release hole for releasing the gas outside the battery pack.

Battery pack and method for producing the same

A non-aqueous electrolyte battery has a cathode, an anode, an electrolyte, and a separator. The separator is a microporous resin film of a single layer made of a resin material in which at least one kind of insulating and flame-retarding fiber is dispersed in a polyolefin resin.

Non-aqueous electrolyte battery

A battery in which a cathode and an anode are arranged so as to face each other an having a separator in between is provided. The separator is formed from a plurality of laminated microporous membranes and has a film thickness of 10x &#x3bc;m and a piercing strength of 150x gf or more, where 1&#x2266;x&#x2266;2. The air permeability of one layer among the plurality of microporous membranes is equal to or larger than 10% of the air permeability of the whole separator.

Separator and battery

A positive electrode includes a collector and a positive electrode mixture layer formed on the collector and containing a polyacrylonitrile based resin-containing binder and a positive electrode active material. The polyacrylonitrile in the positive electrode mixture layer is crosslinked and carbonized.

Positive electrode and lithium ion secondary battery

A battery is provided which has a high capacity and can improve battery characteristics, such as cycle characteristics. The battery includes a spirally wound electrode body, wherein a cathode and an anode are wound with a separator in between. The anode includes, for example, simple substances, alloys, compounds of metal elements or metalloid elements capable of forming an alloy with Li, the like and combinations thereof. An electrolytic solution wherein an electrolyte salt is dissolved in a solvent is impregnated in the separator. For the electrolyte salt, a light metallic salt having B&#x2014;O bond or P&#x2014;O bond, such as difluoro[oxalato-O,O']lithium borate and tetra fluoro[oxalato-O,O&#x2032;]lithium phosphate, can be used. By forming a stable coating, decomposition reaction of the solvent can be inhibited, and reaction between the anode and the solvent can be prevented.

A solid electrolyte battery incorporating a positive electrode with an elongated positive-electrode collector having two sides on which positive-electrode active material layers are formed, a negative electrode with an elongated negative-electrode collector having two sides on which negative-electrode active material layers are formed, and a solid electrolyte layer formed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode such that the positive electrode and the negative electrode are laminated and wound. A ratio A/B of the total film thickness A of the positive-electrode active material layers with respect to the total thickness B of the negative-electrode active material layers satisfies a range from 0.5 to 1.2.

Solid electrolyte battery

A solid electrolyte battery h which includes a wound electrode incorporating a positive electrode with a two-sided elongated positive-electrode collector on which positive-electrode active material layers are formed, a two sided negative electrode with an elongated negative-electrode collector on which negative-electrode active material layers are formed and a solid electrolyte layer formed between the positive and the negative electrodes where, the total film thickness of the positive-electrode active material layers satisfies a range from 60 &#x3bc;m to 150 &#x3bc;m, and the ratio A/B of the total film thickness A of the positive electrode active material layers with respect to the total thickness B of the negative-electrode active material layers satisfies a range from 0.5 to 1.2.

A lithium ion secondary battery is provided. The battery includes a positive electrode having at least a cathode active material and a binder, a negative electrode, an electrolyte, and a separator which are arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and in which an open circuit voltage per unit cell in a full charging state lies within (4.25V&#x2266;voltage&#x2266;6.00V). The cathode active material includes either a lithium-cobalt composite oxide expressed by a general formula: LiCoMeO(Me denotes metal elements of at least one, two or more kinds selected from V, Cu, Zr, Zn, Mg, Al, and Fe; 0.9&#x2266;a&#x2266;1.1; 0&#x2266;x=0.3; and &#x2212;0.1&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.1) or a lithium-cobalt-nickel-manganese oxide expressed by a general formula: LiNiCoMnMeO(0.9&#x2266;a&#x2266;1.1; 0&#x3c;x&#x3c;0.4; 0&#x3c;y&#x3c;0.4; 0&#x3c;z&#x3c;0.3; and &#x2212;0.1&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.1). The binder includes a polyacrylonitrile resin.

Cathode active material and lithium ion secondary battery

A separator having a structure in which a resin layer is formed at least on one principal plane of a base material layer, wherein the resin layer has an inorganic substance is provided. A non-aqueous electrolyte battery in which a cathode and an anode are arranged through the separator so as to face each other is also provided.

Separator and non-aqueous electrolyte battery

A battery in which the relative positions of a cathode, an anode and a separator are maintained with high precision is provided. A cathode and an anode face each other with a polymer electrolyte including a polymer and a separator in between. In each of the cathode and the anode, an active material layer is disposed on a current collector. Exposed regions where the active material layers are not disposed on the current collectors and the separator are adhered to each other with the polymer electrolyte in between. Thereby, even under a high-temperature environment, the heat shrinkage of the separator can be prevented, and heat generation due to the generation of a short-circuit current can be prevented.

A solid electrolyte battery having improved energy density and safety, the solid electrolyte battery incorporating a positive electrode; a negative electrode disposed opposite to the positive electrode; a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and solid electrolytes each of which is disposed between the positive electrode and the separator and between the separator and the negative electrode, wherein the separator is constituted by a polyolefin porous film, the polyolefin porous film has a thickness satisfying a range not greater than 5 &#x3bc;m nor greater than 15 &#x3bc;m and a volume porosity satisfying a range not less than 25% nor greater than 60%, and the impedance in the solid electrolyte battery is greater than the impedance realized at the room temperature when the temperature of the solid electrolyte battery satisfies a range not less than 100&#xb0; C. nor greater than 160&#xb0; C.

Provided are an electrode and a battery having superior charge-discharge cycle characteristics and capable of obtaining a higher energy density. The battery comprises a spirally wound electrode body () including a cathode () and an anode () spirally wound with a separator () in between. During charge, lithium metal is precipitated on the anode (), so the capacity of the anode () is represented by the sum of a capacity component by insertion and extraction of lithium and a capacity component by precipitation and dissolution of the lithium metal. The anode () includes a mixture layer () having a powdered anode active material, and the mixture layer () has liquid absorption properties that when 1 &#x3bc;dmof propylene carbonate is dropped on the mixture layer () at 23&#xb0; C., a contact angle that the mixture layer () forms with a propylene carbonate drop becomes 10 degrees within 100 seconds. Thereby, the mixture layer () is impregnated with an electrolyte solution quickly and uniformly, so lithium metal is uniformly precipitated on the whole mixture layer ().

Electrode and battery using the same

A solid electrolyte battery having improved energy density and safety, the solid electrolyte battery incorporating a positive electrode; a negative electrode disposed opposite to the positive electrode; a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and solid electrolytes each of which is disposed between the positive electrode and the separator and between the separator and the negative electrode, wherein the separator is constituted by a polyolefin porous film, the polyolefin porous film has a thickness satisfying a range not greater than 5mm nor greater than 15mm and a volume porosity satisfying a range not less than 25% nor greater than 60%, and the impedance in the solid electrolyte battery is greater than the impedance realized at the room temperature when the temperature of the solid electrolyte battery satisfies a range not less than 100EC nor greater than 160C.
