An airbag controller in a vehicle occupant protection device deploys airbags when one of a front-right acceleration sensor and a front-left acceleration sensor disposed on a front face of a vehicle detects an over-threshold acceleration exceeding a front threshold and one of a side-right acceleration sensor or a side-left acceleration sensor, which are disposed on a side face of the vehicle, detects an over-threshold acceleration exceeding a lateral threshold. A threshold acceleration storage device stores the front threshold and plural lateral thresholds that have respectively different values. An image processor processes image data from an in-vehicle camera and calculates the offset rate, an offset direction, a collision angle, a collision direction, and a relative speed at a timing just-before an offset collision between a subject vehicle and another vehicle. Based on a detection result, the airbag controller selects one of the plural lateral thresholds stored in the storage device.

Vehicle occupant protection device

A collision detection apparatus that is mounted in a vehicle and that determines whether an object has collided with a side surface of the vehicle from outside the vehicle includes: an acceleration detection portion that detects acceleration in a transverse direction of the vehicle which is applied to a door portion of the vehicle from outside; an integration execution portion that starts integration of the acceleration detected by the acceleration detection portion and finds velocity by integrating the acceleration if the detected acceleration is greater than or equal to a pre-set positive first threshold value, or is less than or equal to a pre-set negative second threshold value; and a collision determination portion that determines whether an object has collided with a side surface of the vehicle based on the detected acceleration and the velocity found by the integration execution portion.

Collision detection apparatus, collision determination method, and activation control apparatus for occupant protection apparatus

A handy reader/writer has a data transmitting and receiving units and a control unit. The transmitting and receiving units communicate with a contactless IC card placed within a communication area of the communicating unit by using first electromagnetic waves outputted from an antenna. The control unit judges whether or not the card is now in communication with a second reader/writer. If the control unit detects the card communicating with the second reader/writer by using second electromagnetic waves, the control unit forbids the antenna outputting the first electromagnetic waves. If the control unit does not detect the card communicating with the second reader/writer, the control unit starts communicating with the card placed. The second reader/writer does not output the second electromagnetic waves when detecting the first electromagnetic waves, and starts communicating with the card when detecting no first electromagnetic waves.

A passenger protection system includes acceleration sensors as well as a passenger protection ECU. At least one acceleration sensor is provided on one of the width-direction sides of the vehicle and at least one accelerator sensor is provided on the other width-direction side of the vehicle. Based on signals generated by the acceleration sensors the passenger protection ECU determines occurrence of a collision, and drives passenger protection apparatus accordingly. In the event of a collision, the passenger protection ECU performs an AND operation on a signal from the acceleration sensor on the colliding one of the width-direction sides of the vehicle, and a signal from the acceleration sensor on the other width-direction side not experiencing the collision, to drive the passenger protection apparatus.

A data code label including a QR code and an ID tag including a memory having an identification code area and a decode data writing area. A data code in the QR code showing an error in decoding is corrected and stored in the memory in the ID tag while the degree of defection of the QR code is low. When the defects advance, the error rate will increase. If the error occurs after advance of defects, the decode data in the memory is read when the error is detected. If the decode data cannot be read, the error correction is effected. If the error rate is higher than a reference, the decode data is obtained from the memory. If this decreases the error rate under the reference, the error correction is effected.

Tag reader writer

An identification tag is attached to or imbedded in each article a plurality of which are located nearby or stacked together. The identification tag wirelessly communicates with a remote controller such as a hand-held terminal to send data or receive command. Electric power to operate the identification card is also wirelessly supplied from the remote controller. The electric power is received only by a particular identification card which is communicating with the remote controller, and is turned off when the communication is completed. The electric power is then supplied to the next identification card which communicates with the remote controller. Thus, all the identification tags sequentially send data thereof one by one to the remote controller. The remote controller includes an indicator that indicates whether the communication with all the identification tags is completed, so that the remote controller can be positioned at a right place until the end of the communication.
