A self-timer operation informing device, particularly one having an auditory and a visual display device is disclosed. In the case of such information device, since both display devices are always driven in order to carry out the display operation, a problem exists in that the power consumption for the self-timer operation display is large. On the other hand, since it is difficult to confirm the display state by the visual display when the brightness is high, in such cases the auditory display is significant. In other words, the visual display does not have significance under high brightness conditions. A self-timer operation informing device, therefore, selects the driving of the visual or the auditory display device in accordance with the brightness information so as to prevent unnecessary display in order to save the power consumption.

A digital display system connected to an exposure indicator in a camera to provide a digital display representative of the exposure value in shutter speed by an array of numerical indicators of the block number eight type. When the numerical value of shutter speed is equal to or larger than one second, the indicator which is directly to the right of the least significant digit is utilized to display an indicium representing a 'second' unit as is usual in digital stop watch art by driving a pair of upper-positioned parallel segments in the 'FIG. eight' pattern to be lit serially from the least significant digit.

Travelling oscillation waves are generated in a lens assembly at an oscillation element by impressing a voltage to an electro-restriction element or elements, whereupon a lens driving operation is performed by frictionally driving a moving element which is pressed in contact with the oscillation element. In the case of manual operation, an oscillation ring operating as the oscillation element is separated from a rotation ring which constitutes the moving element by a clutch device and then the rotation ring is manually rotated for effecting the lens driving operation.

In the disclosed viewfinder, a focusing plate receives light from an objective via a reflex mirror, and after focusing, passes light to an eyepiece via a penta prism. A pair of electro-strain element groups each having at least one polarized or non-polarized electro-strain element are arranged or polarized phase-differentially, and the electro-strain element groups are electrically insulated from each other and the electro-strain element groups and a vibrating member are also electrically insulated from each other. Pulse voltages of different phases derived from one DC power supply are applied to the respective electro-strain element groups, and a moving member press-contacted to the vibrating member is friction-driven by a travelling vibration wave generated in the vibrating member.

At least one electro-optical light shielding member is disposed close to a reticle of a photographic camera arranged for forming an image of an object to be photographed.
