A method for discriminating between Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy, the method comprising the steps of: (1) preparing a solution containing α-synuclein monomers having a tendency to produce rod-like aggregates and/or a solution containing α-synuclein monomers having a tendency to produce twisted aggregates; (2) adding a biological sample from a subject to the solution(s) containing the α-synuclein monomers prepared in step (1); (3) allowing the α-synuclein monomers to aggregate in the solution(s) obtained in step (2); and (4) detecting α-synuclein aggregates formed in step (3).

A thermal conductivity λ1 in a plane direction of the carbon-based material is 100 times or more than a thermal conductivity λ2 in a thickness direction of the carbon-based material.

Ultrasound generation member, ultrasound emission device, and ultrasound denaturation observation device

A vibration detection element includes substrates, support members, and an oscillator, and may be used as a biosensor and/or for liquid inspection by analysis of oscillator resonant frequency change. The substrates have a space portion, and the support members protrude from the surfaces of the respective substrates into the space portion. The oscillator is disposed between the support members and is capable of vibrating in the space portion. The support members may each include multiple supports which prevent the oscillator from contacting the substrate surfaces. During manufacturing the oscillator may be transferred from the support member of a glass flow path substrate to a silicon flow path substrate by placement of the silicon substrate support member against the oscillator and subsequent removal of the adhesive from the glass substrate support member.

Vibration detection element and method for manufacturing the same

An electromagnetic ultrasonic flaw detection method is provided which ensures highly accurate inspection of an interior surface of a fin-implanted heat transfer tube for detection of corrosion and requires less time for the inspection, no contact medium such as water, and less time and less costs for a pretreatment. The method may include moving an EMAT in a fin-implanted heat transfer tube of an air cooling heat exchanger axially of the tube; causing the EMAT to generate an axially symmetric SH wave by utilizing an electromagnetic force to vibrate a tube body of the fin-implanted heat transfer tube to cause resonance; causing the EMAT to detect a resonant frequency; and if the detected resonant frequency is different from a resonant frequency observed when the tube body has a normal wall thickness, judging that an interior surface of the tube body has a corroded portion.

Electromagnetic ultrasonic flaw detection method and electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer to be used therefor

An electromagnetic acoustic transducer is provided which includes magnets and a sheet type coil unit. The magnets are permanent magnets or electromagnets to provide a static magnetic field to an object to be inspected. The coil unit includes a pair of spiral or meander coils of an electrically conductive material, sandwiched between upper and middle insulation sheet and middle and lower insulation sheet. The coils are used for transmission and reception, respectively. All the ends of the respective coils extend through throughholes formed through the upper and middle insulation sheets to the surface of the ultrasonic transducer, and are connected to external leads. The ends for earth are commonly connected to form a common ground terminal. The inspection system with the electromagnetic acoustic resonance which is a combination of resonant technique and a non-contact electromagnetic acoustic transducer can accomplish evaluating the absolute value of ultrasonic attenuation. The attenuation is highly sensitive to the accumulated fatigue damage, showing a maximum around 20-30% of the whole life. This system can assess the damage advance and predict the remaining life of metals.

Electromagnetic acoustic transducer EMAT and inspection system with EMAR

A focusing electromagnetic acoustic transducer is provided which comprises a pair of meander coils, three insulation sheets and a magnet. The meander coils are formed on both surfaces of one of the insulation sheets to be positioned such that the meander coils are coincident with each other, and they are covered with the other insulation sheets. Each of the meander coils comprises a plurality of coil segments wherein intervals between adjacent coil segments sequentially are varied from one end to the other end. The magnet is positioned above the layers consisting the meander coils and insulation sheets. The coil segments of each meander coil are straight lines in parallel with each others, sector shapes on respective circulars having the same center point, or generally circular shapes having the same center point.
