A storage system having high performance and high reliability includes a non-volatile storage device, a storage controller configured to control data to be read and written from and to the storage device using a storage function; and a volatile memory. In the reading and writing, the storage controller generates a log and stores the log in a log memory, writes the log stored in the memory to the storage device, and collects a capacity of the storage area of the memory storing the log written to the storage device. In collecting a free area of the memory, the storage controller executes a base image saving method of writing in the storage device in units of storage areas having a plurality of logs and collecting a free area, and a garbage collection method of writing in the storage device in units of logs and collecting a free area.

An object of the invention is to appropriately separate an available cluster for each user in a storage system configured by using a plurality of clusters each of which is an aggregate of nodes. Provided is a storage system that performs inter-node movement of parity and reconfiguration of a stripe when a node configuration is changed. The storage system includes a plurality of nodes and a management unit, in which the nodes are targets for data write and read requests, form a stripe by a plurality of data stored in different nodes and parity generated based on the plurality of data, and store the parity of the stripe to which the data under the write request belongs in a node different from the plurality of nodes that store the plurality of data so as to perform redundancy; and the management unit transmits, to the node, an arrangement change request to perform the inter-node movement of the parity and the reconfiguration of the stripe when the node configuration is changed.

Storage system

A storage system includes one or more storage units, and a calculator. Each of the one or more storage units has plural physical storage devices, and a processor. The calculator has a controller that processes data inputted to and outputted from the storage unit by the processor. The storage system subjects the data to redundancy and stores the redundant data, and when a failure in which the data related to a read request cannot be read from one of the physical storage devices has occurred, reads the data from the readable physical storage device, recovers the data related to the read request, and transmits the recovered data to a request source of the read request. A process for recovering the data related to the read request from the read data can be selectively executed by the controller of the calculator and the processor of the storage unit.

In each node constituting a storage system, there is at least one of a storage area (user area) in which a user data set is stored and a storage area (parity area). For the node having the user area, there is user part difference information including information indicating whether or not to be in presence of difference for each user area of the node. For the node having the parity area, there is parity part difference information including the information indicating whether or not to be in the presence of difference for each parity area of the node. The second controller, when having executed garbage collection on the predetermined storage area, changes mapping information to post-migration mapping information for accessing data after being migrated by the garbage collection. The first controller acquires the post-migration mapping information from the second controller, and updates the second mapping information using the post-migration mapping information when information in the second mapping information and is to be used for accessing the data in the predetermined storage area has been updated accompanying the garbage collection when the first controller accesses the data in the predetermined storage area after the garbage collection by using the second mapping information.

A compound storage system including: a storage box having a plurality of storage devices; and a plurality of servers capable of executing one or more virtual machines. The storage box stores a logical volume. The virtual machines executable by the server include an application VM and a controller VM. When a predetermined situation occurs in which an application VM of a migration source server is migrated to a predetermined migration destination server, at least one processor of the one or more servers in the compound storage system migrates the application VM to the migration destination server, and migrates a control right of a logical volume used by the application VM to a controller VM of the migration destination server.

A volume to which a storage function is applied is migrated without copying data written to a volume as a migration object between computers while maintaining functionality of the storage function. A plurality of computers are accessibly connected to each of one or more physical storage devices. Each computer migrates ownership of the volume as the migration object to a computer as a destination. When the migration object volume from a first computer to a second computer is an owner volume to which a storage function is applied, the storage function requiring control data for I/O of data, the control data being metadata other than domain mapping data (indicating a relationship between a volume region and a storage region and being metadata for the owner volume), in place of or in addition to the domain mapping data.

The computer nodes have one or more redundancy groups each of which is a group for metadata protection. Each of the one or more redundancy groups includes two or more of the computer nodes including a primary node being a primary computer node and a secondary node being a secondary computer node, and a failover is performed from the primary node to the secondary node. The memory of the primary node has stored therein metadata related to the redundancy group and to be accessed for control. The metadata is redundantly stored in the memory of the primary node and the memory of the secondary node.
