A method of measuring a welding-groove position for an over-lapped fillet welding of thin members, comprising a projection step of projecting a slit light so that the slit light is projected on both the thin members crossing a welding-groove face, a two-dimensional image acquisition step of capturing the slit-light image projected on each of the thin members as two-dimensional images; a three-dimensional conversion step of converting the two-dimensional images into three-dimensional images using a predetermined three-dimensional conversion parameter, and a calculation step of calculating the welding-groove position based on the three-dimensional data of the projected slit-light images, and relative positions between the projected slit-light images in the three-dimensional data defined by shapes and arrangement of the thin members.

Method, apparatus and system for measuring a welding-groove position

A laser beam projector to be employed in an automatic welding machine, such as a robot, includes an optical head that projects a laser beam and a holding and turning mechanism that holds and turns the optical head. The spot of the laser beam can be accurately located on the portion to be welded by turning the optical head by the holding and turning mechanism.

Laser beam projector

A weld portion detector ( ) and a laser beam projector ( ) disposed a predetermined distance behind the weld portion detector ( ) are moved together. The weld portion detector ( ) detects a weld line and the laser beam projector ( ) projects on the weld line detected by the weld portion detector ( ) for laser welding. Pieces of data on weld positions sequentially detected by the weld portion detector ( ) are stored sequentially in combination with times when the pieces of data on the weld positions are obtained and moving speeds of the weld portion detector ( ) in a memory. A time when the weld portion detector ( ) passed a point at which the laser beam projector ( ) has just arrived is calculated on the basis of the times and the moving speeds stored in the memory. The laser beam projector ( ) projects a laser beam on a weld position detected at the thus calculated time.

Laser welding method and laser welding apparatus

A laser-welding head is capable of applying a fixed pressure to parts to be welded of workpieces regardless of the undulation of the surfaces of the parts to be welded. The laser-welding head includes a pressing device ( ) having a roller ( ) which rolls along parts of workpieces near a weld line ( ) to press together the same parts of the workpieces, a pressing unit ( ) for applying a predetermined pressure to the pressing device ( ) to press the pressing device ( ) toward the parts of the workpieces near the weld line ( ), and a laser beam projecting unit ( ) mounted on the pressing unit ( ) for movement together with the pressing device ( ). The pressing unit ( ) is provided with a pneumatic cylinder actuator for applying the predetermined pressure to the pressing device ( ).

A machine for inspecting the surface conditions of structural members within a furnace, particularly within a furnace operating at a high temperature or with a highly radioactive environment, such as a melting furnace for processing radioactive wastes. The machine comprises a laser-transmission optical fiber incorporated with a laser projector at one end thereof inserted into the furnace and being connected to a laser beam source outside the furnace; a fiberscope incorporated with the objective portion at one end thereof inserted into the furnace and being connected to an image sensor located outside the furnace; means for calculating the distance to a structural wall surface on which the laser beam from a tip portion of the inspection machine has fallen, by subjecting an image from the image sensor to image processing; a double-walled tube of a structure such that the laser-transmission optical fiber is incorporated through an inner tube thereof, and a coolant introduced into a passageway within the inner tube returns in the vicinity of the laser projector at the tip portion; and a double-walled tube of a structure such that the fiberscope is incorporated through an inner tube thereof, and a coolant introduced into a passageway within the inner tube returns in the vicinity of the objective portion at the tip portion.
