A fuel injection device is disclosed, which includes a body having first and second bores coupled to each other in series. A delivering plunger is fitted in the first bore, so that it can slide, to define a delivering pump chamber therein. Fuel under a constant pressure is supplied to the delivering pump chamber through a control passage, on which an electromagnetic valve is provided for opening and closing it. An injection plunger is fitted in the second bore, so that it can slide, to define in the second bore a chamber linking the delivering pump chamber and an injection pump chamber. Fuel under a pressure lower than the pressure of fuel in the delivering pump chamber is supplied to the injection pump chamber, which is hydraulically coupled to an injection nozzle.

Fuel injection device

A fuel injection nozzle of the present invention has an accumulating chamber in a body in which high pressure fuel fed from the fuel injection pump is stored using a non-return valve. A needle valve is arranged in the body to inject the fuel in the accumulating chamber. A nozzle needle of the needle valve and a valve member are arranged coaxially and in series with each other. Those end portions of the nozzle needle and valve member which are adjacent to each other are slidably and liquid-sealingly fitted together to define a damping chamber between the valve member and the nozzle needle. Further, a damping plunger is coaxially fitted into the valve member. A passage which connects the damping chamber with the side of the fuel injection pump is coaxially formed in the damping plunger and has a reduced area.

Fuel injection nozzle

A distributor type fuel injection pump of the present invention is of the Lucas type having a rotor rotatably driven by an engine but not reciprocated. Spill ports of the same number as that of the cylinders of the engine communicating with a pump chamber are opened at an equal peripheral interval on the outer peripheral surface of the rotor, and a spill ring to cover the spill ports is slidably mounted on the outer peripheral surface of the rotor. A spill groove is formed to extend axially on the inner peripheral surface of this spill ring. One edge of the spill groove, which initially meets the respective spill ports during the pressurizing step for pressurizing the fuel in the pump chamber, is inclined to the axis, and the other edge of the spill groove is parallel to the axis.

In a method for controlling the fuel injection in an internal combustion engine by using an electronic control device for triggering the fuel increase in the engine acceleration state, the fuel increase is prohibited or modified during gear change operations of the automobile driven by the engine corresponding to the detection of the state where the rate of change of the ratio between the intake air amount is algebraically less than a predetermined value, or to the output signal of a clutch switch.
