A piston ring is a piston ring for use in an oil-free-type reciprocating compressor for compressing hydrogen gas, the piston ring containing thermoplastic polyimide as a main component and carbon fiber and/or graphite as an additive, and having a tensile strength of 90 MPa or more and a bending strength of 150 MPa or more.

A piston ring includes a first ring portion which is fitted onto an outer circumferential portion of a piston and which is capable of sliding relative to an inner wall surface of a cylinder, and a second ring portion which is fitted onto the outer circumferential portion of the piston, arranged side-by-side with the first ring portion in the axial direction, and which is capable of sliding relative to the inner wall surface of the cylinder. The second ring portion is fitted onto the outer circumferential portion of the piston in such a way as to be positioned on a side opposite to a compression chamber inside the cylinder, relative to the first ring portion, and has a greater hardness than the first ring portion has.

Provided is a sliding member having slidability and abrasion resistance both at satisfactory levels. This sliding member has a sliding surface including a base and a filling part. The base includes a first material and bears regularly arranged concavities. The filling part includes a second material and is arranged in the sliding surface to fill the concavities. The first material includes one selected from the group consisting of a metallic material, a ceramic material, and a carbonaceous material. The second material includes at least one selected from the group consisting of a metallic material, a ceramic material, and a carbonaceous material. The first and second materials differ from each other in at least one of frictional coefficient and hardness. The base and the filling part are substantially flush with each other in the sliding surface.

Sliding member and method for manufacturing the same

A sliding member includes: a substrate which has a sliding surface sliding under the presence of lubricating oil; and a film which is fixed to at least a part of the sliding surface. The film contains carbon (C), titanium (Ti), and boron (B), is obtained by repeatedly and alternately layering a first layer containing amorphous carbon as a principal component and a second layer containing C and Ti as principal components, and has hardness of 18 GPa or more.

Sliding member

A laminated film is provided which exhibits excellent durability even when formed over a surface of a member (in particular, sliding member) to be used under a high pressure of contacted surface of 2.0 GPa or more. The laminated film includes an intermediate layer which contains one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of a carbide, a boride, and a boron carbide compound of a metal element, and which has a hardness measured by a nanoindentation method (hereinafter referred to as a 'nanoindentation hardness') of not less than 20 GPa nor more than 35 GPa and a thickness of not less than 5 &#x3bc;m nor more than 10 &#x3bc;m, and a diamond-like carbon film which is formed over the intermediate layer, and which has a nanoindentation hardness of not less than 25 GPa nor more than 35 GPa and a thickness of not less than 0.3 &#x3bc;m nor more than 1.0 &#x3bc;m.

A diamond-like carbon film for sliding parts which is applied to the sliding surface of sliding parts, the diamond-like carbon film including at least two layers, one being a lower layer of diamond-like carbon (referred to as DLC hereinafter) and the other being an upper layer of DLC placed thereon, wherein the lower layer has a hardness no lower than 20 GPa and no higher than 45 GPa, a Young's modulus no lower than 250 GPa and no higher than 450 GPa, and a thickness no smaller than 0.2 &#x3bc;m and no larger than 4.0 &#x3bc;m, and the upper layer has a hardness no lower than 5 GPa and lower than 20 GPa, a Young's modulus no lower than 60 GPa and no higher than 240 GPa, and a thickness no smaller than 1.0 &#x3bc;m and no larger than 10 &#x3bc;m. The diamond-like carbon film has both good durability and low frictional coefficient.

A metal separatorfor a fuel cell according to the invention is a metal separator for a fuel cell manufactured by using a metal substratewith a flat surface, or with concave gas flow paths formed on at least a part of the surface. The metal separatorincludes an acid-resistant metal filmformed over the surface of the metal substrate, and containing one or more kinds of non-noble metals selected from the group comprised of Zr, Nb, and Ta, and a conductive alloy filmformed over the acid-resistant metal film, and containing one or more kinds of noble metals selected from the group comprised of Au and Pt, and one or more kinds of non-noble metals selected from the group comprised of Zr, Nb, and Ta. A method for manufacturing the metal separator for a fuel cell according to the invention includes a step Sof depositing an acid-resistant metal film, and a step Sof depositing a conductive alloy film. With this structure, the invention provides the metal separator for a fuel cell with an excellent acid resistance and a low contact resistance, and a manufacturing method thereof.

Metal separator for fuel cell and manufacturing method thereof

The present invention concerns an alloy film for a metal separator for a fuel cell characterized by containing at least one noble metal element selected from Au and Pt and at least one non-noble metal element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Nb, Hf, and Ta, at a content ratio of noble metal element/non-noble metal element of 35/65 to 95/5, and having a film thickness of 2 nm or more. The present invention also relates to a manufacturing method of an alloy film for the metal separator for the fuel cell and a target material for sputtering, as well as the metal separator and the fuel sell. The alloy film for the metal separator for the fuel cell according to the invention is excellent in the corrosion resistance, has low contact resistance, can maintain the low contact resistance for a long time even in a corrosive environment, and is excellent further in the productivity.

Provided is a nitrogen-containing amorphous carbon film exhibiting excellent durability even when formed on the surface of a sliding member used under high surface pressure or under a lubricating oil environment. The nitrogen-containing amorphous carbon film is formed by physical evaporation onto the sliding surface of a sliding member and contains 8.0 to 12.0 atomic % of hydrogen and 3.0 to 14.0 atomic % of nitrogen. The nitrogen-containing amorphous carbon film is effective when, for instance, formed on at least one sliding surface of a sliding member, such as a sliding part of an automobile engine.
