A hybrid construction machine includes an engine, a hydraulic pump configured to be driven by the engine, a hydraulic actuator configured to be driven with a hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic pump, an electric motor configured to assist the driving of the engine, and a generator configured to be driven by the engine to generate power. The number of revolutions of the engine is caused to vary in accordance with the size of a load on the engine. In response to a decrease in the load requested of the engine, the engine is decelerated by causing the generator to generate power. In response to an increase in the load requested of the engine, the engine is accelerated by assisting the engine by driving the electric motor.

A turning drive control apparatus that controls a drive of a turning mechanism of a construction machine driven to turn by an electric motor, includes: a drive command creation part that creates a drive command to drive the electric motor based on an amount of operation input through an operation part of the construction machine; a turning motion detection part that detects a turning motion of the turning mechanism; and a drive command correction part that corrects the drive command, when a turning motion in a direction opposite to a turning operation direction input to the operation part is detected by the turning motion detection part, to suppress the turning motion in the direction opposite to the turning operation direction in response to a degree of the turning motion in the direction opposite to the turning operation direction.

A rotation drive control unit configured to control the driving of the rotation mechanism of a construction machine driven to rotate by an electric motor includes a speed command output part configured to output a speed command controlling the rotation speed of the electric motor based on the amount of operation input via the operation part of the construction machine; a torque direction detection part configured to detect the direction of torque applied on the rotation shaft of the rotation mechanism; and a drive control part configured to generate a drive command driving the electric motor based on the speed command output from the speed command output part and to control the driving of the electric motor, wherein in starting rotation of the rotation mechanism, the drive control part starts driving the electric motor using the drive command if the direction of the rotation represented by the speed command output from the speed command output part and the direction of the torque detected by the torque direction detection part are opposite directions.
