A tensioner for an endless transmission belt includes a plunger body. A plunger is movably provided in a hole of the plunger body to press the belt. A chamber is provided between the plunger and the plunger body to store hydraulic oil. An oil supply passage is provided in the plunger body to supply the oil from an oil pump to the chamber. A check valve is provided between the chamber and the passage and configured to allow the oil to be supplied from the pump to the chamber while the check valve is configured to be closed when a pressure in the chamber is higher than a pressure of the oil supplied by the pump. A relief valve is provided between the chamber and the passage and configured to discharge the oil in the chamber to the passage when the pressure in the chamber exceeds a first predetermined value.

Tensioner for endless transmission belt and internal combustion engine having the tensioner

A tensioner for an endless transmission belt includes a plunger body and a plunger. The plunger is movably provided in the plunger body to press the endless transmission belt. A pressure chamber provided between the plunger and the plunger body is configured to store hydraulic oil supplied from an oil pump. A check valve is provided in the plunger body, configured to be opened to supply the hydraulic oil to the pressure chamber when a pressure in the pressure chamber is lower than an oil pressure from the oil pump, and configured to be closed when the pressure is higher than the oil pressure. A relief valve is provided in the plunger body within a width of the plunger in a direction orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the plunger and configured to discharge the hydraulic oil in the pressure chamber when the pressure exceeds a predetermined value.

A projection is formed on the outer circumference of an annular member and a stopping member is attached to a cylinder head supporting a camshaft thereon. A side surface of the projection comes into contact with a side surface of the stopping member to restrain a decompression cam from turning when the camshaft rotates in the normal direction. The stopping member does not apply any pressure to the annular member in a radial direction and the annular member does not exert any force on the camshaft. Consequently, frictional resistance against the rotation of the camshaft can be reduced and a loss in the output of the engine can be suppressed.

Decompressor for four-stroke cycle engine

A lubrication system for an engine includes an oil discharge port in a lower section of a crankcase. A crankshaft, with a crank web attached thereto, rotates in a rotation direction within the crankcase. A first distance is formed between the crank web and a first inner surface of the crankcase, downstream of the oil discharge port. A second distance is formed between the crank web and a second inner surface of the crankcase, upstream of the oil discharge port. The first distance is less than the second distance. Also, the oil discharge port is defined in part by a back edge, which is wedge shaped and points in a direction opposite the rotation direction of the crankshaft. The back edge scoops oil from the crank web and into the oil discharge port.

Lubrication structure for 4-cycle engine

The inside of a crankcase for a four-cycle engine is divided by a bulkhead into a crank chamber and a transmission chamber. A crankshaft and a balancer shaft for suppressing engine vibrations by rotating in accompaniment with rotations of the crankshaft are rotatably attached within the crankshaft, and the balancer shaft is driven by the crankshaft via a gear set housed within the crank chamber. Meshing parts of a gear set can be sufficiently lubricated by oil mist without a special lubricating structure being required. Furthermore, the engine can be decreased in size without forming a sealed space for lubricating the gear set.

A chain guide structure having, in combination, a chain cover and a chain guide member which can easily and securely be placed on the chain cover for temporary assembling, and capable of improving the efficiency of the assembling work. A chain guide structure for guiding a chain wound round a driving sprocket supported on the sidewall of a crankcase and covered with a cover attached to the sidewall includes an elastic chain guide member having a substantially semicircular shape opening toward the rear and supported on the inner surface of the cover so as to extend along the chain. At least two ribs are formed on the inner surface of the cover so as to hold the chain guide member by elastically deforming the chain guide member so that the width of the open end of the chain guide member is changed.
